I'm a new business owner who is attempting to develop a sound reducing dog crate. My girlfriend and I recently adopted a beautiful Boxer from a rescue organization and the "pet friendly" condo where we stay at became much less friendly on a few occasions when a neighbor complained of dog barking. We've done the training classes, exercise a lot, and she almost never barks. However, I learned that a few lapses during the day can cost us noise fines starting at $250 to upwards of $1000. I was willing to pay whatever I could for a crate that would provide a bit of a safety net for our Boxer's off-days. When I realized that there was no such product available, my business partner and I decided to develop a semi-soundproof dog crate for myself and other pet owners in similar situations. We'd love any ideas that you have or tips for proceeding with this idea. If you'd like, please visit our launching website at Serenity Dog Crate

You know, I actually really like this idea. Of course it's best to train, but there are a lot of people unwilling to do so. I think it could really cut down on the number of animals that end up in shelters, because a lot of them are for barking. I'd love to see the finished product when it's done.

I actually think it's a good idea too. I think as long as it's not outrageously expensive, it could be fairly popular. ;)

I also like the idea, though I am not sure how you can soundproof something and leave air holes, that will let the noise escape...

This would be great because I have a dog that barks non-stop in the crate.

That.

If you could do it though, it would be awesome and I would def. consider it if I had a barking dog and lived somewhere like an apartment.

Interesting that you invented a "sound proof" crate and have it almost ready to sell in the 3 days since you asked how to soundproof a crate on another forum...

Since the website is pretty light on product specs, should you give a few more details about how this product is going to work?

The concept of a crate that can reduce sound is a very good one, and that's what you are advertising on your site... as a new business owner, my advice to you is to be wary of giving false advertising. You are advertising your crate on here as soundproof, but you are selling a sound-reducing crate.

Advertising the product as it is, listing product specifications, why it works, how it works, and true honest testimonies will place your business in a much higher respect and garner you more business than a ghostly web concept like you have given us here, and false advertising as you have done on this thread.

Best of luck!

Actually, this has all started in a matter of about 3 weeks. Primarily, I'd like to create one for my own Boxer and then I started thinking about selling it if I could make it work. Definitely still in the testing phase and am interested in any and all ideas. I'm new to the whole forum idea and wasn't sure about posting a website in the other forum. If I can get this thing competed, I'm looking to start production asap. All of the responses have been incredibly informative.

RE: AllieMacki:
Thanks for the advice. Is it possible to change a my original posting heading to reflect "Sound Reducing" instead of "Sound Proof?" I looked for an edit function but could not find one. I'd like to ensure that I'm not misleading anyone and am pretty new to the forum world. Thanks

The option to edit your own posts goes away after the first hour, IIRC. A mod may do it for you.

The goal is to reduce the bark decibel level by a significant enough level to avoid disturbing neighbors. A more accurate description would be "sound reducing" crate (I'd change it if i could). I have a method that has decreased the bark volume by about 60 percent on average and am working on reducing even more. The ventilation system is the most difficult part in this process and of course the most important.
