So... Morgan was scratching an itch and started crying. I went to take a look and found that the inside of his ear is scratched raw. I have no idea when this happened!

Since it's almost 10pm here, running to the vet isn't really an option, though I don't think it's quite bad enough to warrant that a this point, anyways. Is there something I can put on his sore ear in the meantime? Neosporin? Bactine? Anything?

At the very least, I think he's going to get a bath tonight, in case he's just itching from being dirty. I doubt it's a food thing, since he's been on the same food for 18 months, though I suppose it's still possible...

My poor buddy just can't seem to get a break. :( Last week he was sick and mopey, and now his ear hurts. I know there are much worse things I could be dealing with, and I'm thankful that it's just these "little" problems, but it still makes me so sad to see Morgan so unhappy.

If you can get to a pet store and get an alcohol free ear cleaner or cream, that would help. I don't know what you ended up with last night ... it sucks when things like that happen when everyone is closed. I guess that's when I love WalMart! lol

Dora had this same problem recently and it was because a rogue flea ran into her ear canal and she tried to dig it out. I used the soothing ear cleaner and a cold compress and it was fine in a few days, but her toenail did a nice job in there! :(

He's actually not better. :( But he should be soon! I woke up at 8:00am to him crying again, only now his right ear is completely raw, plus his right eye is irritated and he's scratched a raw spot on the right side of his chin. Needless to say, we were at the vet by 9:30.

He has a skin infection, causing a yeast ear infection. The vet checked his eye, and thankfully he has NOT scratched the cornea at all (whew!), but the soft tissue is all very red and swollen. He got an injection to help with all the inflammation everywhere, and now he has three medications to take at home: ointment for the ear, pills for the skin infection, and drops for his eye.

The vet suspects allergies, which is a relief and yet more stressful at the same time, because I have NO idea what could have caused such a reaction. I asked about food, and our vet says that a food allergy seems pretty unlikely since the reaction is all on one side of his face.

I just hope it all clears up soon and my poor Morgan starts feeling better. :(

I already gave him his first dose of meds, and he cried so hard while I was treating his ear. Bless his soul, he stood there and let me apply it without much struggle, but his whimpering near broke my heart.

For the good side of things, he was an absolute angel at the vet's office. We had to go to the new branch since our normal vet was already booked for the day. Morgan got quite a few compliments on his good behaviour. :)

I just put a pair of dog booties on his back feet to try and keep him from scratching at himself more... I hope the meds start to work soon!

The new clinic is really nice. :) We actually got to see Dr. Hurd again, which was really cool. I was really sad when he transfered away from our office.

You can still do warm compresses to help soothe the ear and eye, at least until the meds take effect, which might be a few days for full relief (I assume he got a steriod injection).

Thank you, colliewog. Yes, it was a steroid injection. Sorry, I meant to say that and I guess I forgot.

He seems to be doing better. No more itching and scratching... just a lot of pouting. I feel so bad for him! I will try the compress this evening. Anything to make my poor boy feel better!
