Some Kids Pets Sally Today...

And they were very polite! Even though there was no parent with them (they were like 7 and maybe 5) they asked if they could pet Sally and only came up to her after I said they could. Sally was very polite back and everything went well.

I read a lot of "bad kid" stories on dog boards, so I thought I'd just put a positive one out there......

Most of the time when I'm out with my dog's I have more problem's with the adult's than Kid's, Most of the kid's ask first. The adults don't ask Just walk up & start touching & grabbing. Then they see my attitude.

With Lola she approaches the adults first and if kids are their she approaches them second if were not doing therapy work. If we are doing therapy work I ask the people if they would like to pet her no one has turned her down yet and in both situations she loves the attention.

I find it interesting how adults are usually worse than kids when it comes to petting strange dogs. I mean, who taught the kids manners around the strange dogs, anyway, and why aren't the parents following their own advice?

It's always made me nervous to allow petting from unattended children. (Age is a factor, though.) Capone would never hurt anyone, but he's a big boy and adults tend to be leery of him. (However, most kids shriek 'Ooooh - a tiger!' and come right up to get a good look at the freak show ) Should a kid become spooked for whatever reason, I don't want to be the person with the giant dog scaring a small child.

I've been snuck up on in a narrow aisle before, though and turned to see what's gotten Capone's attention. What else, but a three year old holding his tail?? I always make a point to let them know that Capone likes people and he wouldn't hurt them, but some dogs aren't so nice or they might be afraid, so they should always ask first.

Adults, however.... they're another story. My FIL's neighbor still refers to Capone as "one of those 'killers'." Seriously, lady?
