Not only would I start closing my toilet lids but I would also begin using cinder blocks to secure them.

    Just sayin'

If my wife saw snakes coming up through the sump in the basement, she'd move. I'd get a call from her at her dad's house telling me to let me know when I'd packed up and sold the house :D

It's a city storm sewer. My guess is that somewhere in the city, there's a winter nest... and since the storm sewers are completely overloaded, they're getting washed in. I'm not the only one with problems with snakes coming up in the drains... other residents have had the same problem. Trust me, if it was just me, I'd be burning the house down because THAT would mean the nest was on MY property. And I would not be able to deal with that.

I love them too... but when they come into my house uninvited, it's where I draw the line. Luckily we've only had a few come up. It's not dozens or anything, just a few.

Still pumping water out, by the way. No snakes since last night. Ugh this is ridiculous.

Well they are probably just trying to escape drowning from the unexpected surge of water in what I assume is normally a dry drain. Just asked because if the drain line lets out somewhere on the property (vs tying into the city system somehow) you may want to find the outlet and secure hardware cloth or similar over it to prevent a reoccurance.

I'm on my phone so the pic is tiny but it looks like some sort of garter snake to me.

You should start filming for Snakes in a Drain :

In all seriousness, that really, really sucks. Flooding is NOT fun to deal with at all.

Ugh, poor you! That sucks. Our basement flooded a couple years ago and it was terrible. Thankfully no snakes though! I hope it all gets under control soon for you.

..there are no words to describe how I would feel if I had to deal with a flooded basement and snakes

    ((HUGS))

    I would move.
