 We were just at the groomers with Shadow. Anyways we were getting her a nice short cut all around. I stayed to watch..So anyways once the grommer got to her belly,he cut her nipple!! She let out a huge scream..and whimpered for a while.. needless to say after telling the grommer he couldn't finish ..I let my dad talk to him...I brought her home...I didn' t feel like letting him finish...now he nipple is a little pink and it has like a bloody scratch thingy on it...Its not really bleeding though..what should I do..is there anything I can put on it to make it feel better??? Now I have a dog with a fuzzy stomach and head and a short cut on her body...I dont know if she will co-operate at a grommers again or if ill take her agin...:( so my question is ..can i put anything on it to make it feel better??i feel so sorry for my baby

awww. What will your dad do?

It's not a bad cut? Maybe just some aloe vera?

No it's not a bad cut more like a scratch but it still scared me! I'll try the aloe vera..My dad is pretty laid back.he didn't fight him..lol I was more snappy then my dad.My dad just said since he injured the dog and didn't finish the cut that he wouldn't be paying for it..The guy giving her the cut was pretty rude about it when he cut her..but when my dad talked to him he acted all embarassed..so anyways we didn't pay thats about all though...

Poor pup! Did she get cut with clippers or scissors? In the groomer's defense, accidents do happen and it's not always due to incompetence.

It doesn't sound bad at all, dogs tend to heal quickly. Just keep it clean, maybe some aloe like Saje suggested.

I can relate to you. I had a male groomer who Came to my house and I thought he was a little to rough with my one dog Rio. Hence I dropped him fast. I would think since your pup got cut this guy would be apologizing all over the place and I would also exspect him to call to see how your dog is doing! I get super scared when I see scissors going near my dogs. I would look for a new groomer. The person grooming you dog should be sensitive when something happens. I know accidents happen but a bad attitude is not acceptable in my book. Hope your baby is ok.

Sorry to hear your dog got cut - nipples are unfortunately easy to cut because they stick out and yet hide enough in the hair to not always see them easily.

Just a word of advice, though, in case something similar happens again. When your dog gets a little nick like that, and you make a huge fuss over her, you are showing her that she SHOULD be upset. Dogs learn from their owners. When they get a little scared and then the owners rush in to hug on them and pet them and reassure them, it just makes the whole event a huge thing in their minds.

Most likely, if you had not fussed over her at that point and just told her "you'll be okay" and not held her and petted her, she would have put no importance on it other than it hurt a bit. But now she may very well be more scared the next time she goes to a groomers because her owner reinforced that being scared was the right thing to do.

It's hard not to act reassuring at times like that, but in all honesty it just makes things worse.

You may want to start working on her now to get her accustomed to at least having scissors use on her. I'd take the scissors and some good treats, maybe snip them right near her (not actually cutting the fur) and then give her a treat - and maybe progress to the point where you actually trim a tiny bit of hair. A good dog will learn to lay quietly when groomed and clipped. This should be taught by the owner.

If she just has a scratch on her nipple it should heal fine as long as it's kept clean and dry. I wouldn't put anything on it unless you absolutely have to - she will probably just lick it off anyway.

Good luck -

Yuck! I know accidents do happen but I would definitely be looking for a different groomer! They need to love animals...not hurt them.

Thank you for that post! I have nicked a dog before. And you all know I love them! It just happens sometimes. Yes, you should take a breather and let the dog recoup from being cut a little. But don't get overly mad at the groomer. Dogs are wiggly and usually don't like being shaved. But, if a groomer shows no remorse at all over the accident, drop them like a rock.
