So today a guy comes in, the topic becomes about Princess. He asked who watches her when we have to be gone, we said so far she just goes with us. Well he offered to keep her for us if we need him to. He has a kennel outside, she'd have to stay in it but he'd be sure to walk her. Well Princess is a spoiled little girl, she lives inside. She has a fenced in yard that she runs and plays in, she watches tv with me in the evening and sleeps on a pillow next to our bed, and if she gets real cold she gets in bed with us. I couldnt stand the thought of leaving her somewhere that would mean she'd be spending alot of time penned up. ANYWAY, he asked if she can be led with a leash, I laughed and said yes and sometimes I'm the one led. Simply because if she sees a cat she might try to chase it. He said he'd break her of that real quick. Started saying how the best way to handle a Chow is to shave their necks and put on a shock collar, that will stop the crap real quick. Said Chows are mean, he's seen Chows kill other dogs, and the reason they are so mean is....on and on. My husband tried to argue with him but it was all on deaf ears. This guy "had Chows", he knows, in fact according to him 'red chows' are the meanest.
Well no way would he ever be allowed to babysit my girl! I just cant stand it when these "experts" come walking in with all the answers about certain breeds. He comes in different times, he's played with Princess in ways I didnt like and I've removed her from being around him. The hole time talking about what great guard dogs they are, gotta train them to guard your place, ect. I always feel like his play is encouraging aggression.
I just wanted to vent. It upset me listening to him and his 'cures', advice, and his so called facts. Its no wonder his dogs get mean. I'd be mean to. Just to think he would honestly think I'd ever trust him to babysit my dog, I DONT THINK SO.

I understand why your so mad! I would be too! I'm scared that one day I'll run into somebody like that when I'm in a bad mood and I'll end up in jail, if you know what I mean. ;)
I once told some 'fish expert' what not at my lfs that I did not believe in experts. I said I'm the only expert of MY fish, MY dogs, MY life. They can offer advice, but its me - not them, who ultimatly makes the final decision. It got him to leave me alone
Isn't it common sense that if you hit a child when your mad, the child will learn to hit others when he's mad? Then wouldn't it be common sense if you hurt a dog for the dog to bite others when he's mad? Gee wiz.

We had a guy that use to hang around the kennels, he could talk like he knew everything there was to train a labrador.....he would go to kennel clubs and talk to people that would act like he was just the best thing....I would want to puke because I never knew a more cruel man alive. EVentually the kennel club kicked him out. fyi i ran into him at my friend's ink jet refill store..guess what he put together a book oh boy! I saw him take a chain to the dog that loved him most because she got confused..I wanted to push him into the water and use his ol' cattle prod on him! I refused to train with him and I was only a kid. He is out there folks! BEWARE!!!!! He trains peoples dogs too!!!

I worked for a woman who "trained" like that. The worst part was that she would LIE to people and tell them she was a humane trainer!! It made me ill to watch her train those dogs. I finally told her off when I left, and I said some really nasty things. :D But she IS a published author!! Yes, they are out there, and yes, they will take your money and abuse your dog. Don't ever do anything you're not comfortable with! It just doesn't make sense to pay someone to abuse your dog.

He is the last person I would leave my dog with. Thank goodness you saw his "training" techniques before he got a hold of your sweet baby. I cannot stand people like that. when they act like they know it all and will not even listen to what you have to say, don't you just want to kick them in the you know whats?

This all makes me mad. But what really makes me mad, "red Chows are the meanest." NO SIR! When I was a little girl, we had a full blooded Chow, she had been a stray and was RED, and she was like a best friend. Yes, she was very protective of us, but a lot of dogs are like that. Now, I have a half red Chow half Lab. Big teddy bear. People need to be more educated. They know what their dog is like, I know what mine is like.

If you were closer, you could leave her with me. I've been dog sitting our neighbors dog, and he is just as spoiled as ours. He sleeps in the bed at night with us, and our mini Doxie. We've been trying to do all of the things that they do, trying to keep his routine like it is when he is at home. We've had him two weeks, and will be having him one more.

I wouldn't tolerate anyone keeping my dogs outside in a kennel like that.

"Red Chows are the meanest." What a moron!!!

It really irritates me when people make generalizations like that. When people tell me, "I've heard this breed does this or that breed does that," I always tell them that, of the hundreds of dogs I've met, I've only been bitten by three: a greyhound, a corgi, and a Yorkshire terrier. And every bite was my fault!! (Never play chase with a greyhound. You look more like a running rabbit than you think!) I've trained a dozen pit bull terriers, several rotties, GSDs, you name it. And I grew up with dobermans. And I couldn't tell you how many of them had been branded "aggressive," "dominant," or "dangerous" by other trainers. I have been the "last resort" more than once; if I gave up, these wonderful dogs would be put down. And you know what? These "difficult" dogs are my star students! They're not aggressive. They may be scared, confused, hurt, or upset, but those negative labels only hold them back!

Rrrrr...that just gets me so steamed! "Red Chows" my hide. Maybe someone ought to put a shock collar on his neck and see how he likes it! >:)

He came back today. I seen him coming so I hurried and put the road block down so Princess would have to stay next to my desk with me. Then our tool dealer walks in, he is always so happy to see Princess and she loves seeing him. Princess use to live in the home of our tool man. She belonged to a roomate who wasnt giving her the proper care so he made it his goal to find her a good home. When we said we'd take her he got on the phone right then and talked his roomate into giving her up to us.
Anyway, once again the topic of dogs and training came up. The jerk said something about having to hit dogs to get their attention. Our tool guy says YOU NEVER HIT DOGS! The jerk says "Have you ever seen a mean greyhound? I have one who is mean" and went on to say dogs like that you have to let them know who is in charge, ect. Sick guy. Sad how this guy ends up with all these mean dogs yet cant figure out he is why they turn so mean. I wish we had animal cops here! Sad thing is his pets wouldnt be adoptable. He has a horse to, I feel bad for that horse because I bet he's abusive to it too. sick sick people.

Gee, I wonder what made his dogs mean...

You should call your local SPCA or animal control. You could even call the police; animal abuse and neglect are crimes. They could sieze his animals, fine him, or throw his abusive butt in jail. I know his dogs would thank you if they could.
