For those of you that ahve small dogs, how do you restrain them in the car? And do you think whatever you use would work for a 4-pound 3-legged dog? ;)

Right now I have a crate that I buckle into the front seat, but it's a pain. I have to take it out all the freaking time, and when it's in it's not easy to get to the door because it's a little too big. I could go with a smaller crate, but I think I'd rather have something that isn't a crate. For Gavroche and Logan I use seatbelt harnesses. Do you think there is one available that would work for such a small dog with only one front leg?

I'm just trying to get ideas. It'll still be a couple weeks at least before he can comfortably wear a harness, but that gives me timw to find and order one. I've seen dog car seats too - are those any good? Safe? Easy to use?

I just use a crate with Luna.

My friend has the car seat for her pomeranian and she likes it. I've heard of people having trouble training their dog to stay in the seat, though. There is a clip so that you actually restrain the dog in the seat, but they can still manage to wiggle around and be obnoxious. And you'll definately have to have the dog on a harness even with the car seat.

I have the Snoozer dog car seat. He LOVES it because he's easily able to see out the window, lay down in it, stand in it, and I just attach the buckle thingy to the seatbelt (it comes with the seat) and the actual car seat is strapped in with the seat belt like a childs car seat would be. He gets in the car and hops right in there every time.
