So three days ago Strider's pee started smelling very strongly of skunk. So strongly that now wherever he pees it smells like a skunk sprayed there, and a few people have commented on his skunky odor. He doesn't smell skunky, except right after he pees if some gets on his sheath hairs or something.

Help! Is this a health concern? It just started. He eats kirkland chicken and rice formula, and gets raw supplemented. This just started though and he has had no change in diet.

Is this a normal unneutered male dog thing? He is one year old now. Is there something I can give him to take away the stench? He can't go around smelling things up like this.

Could be but thats more of a fishy smell. I would take him in to make sure he doesn't have an infection.

Sounds like a bladder infection or something. Could also be kidney problems. You might want to ask your vet if you need to bring in a urine sample when you come in, they're relatively easy to "collect" at your house but more difficult in a vet's office!

I know that when Amos came to live with us, he was 16 months old and intact....and he had a very funky odor. I made an appointment right away, which I still agree is important to do, but our Vet said that some intact boys just have a stronger smell. It went away with his testicles.;)

Dr2, you scared me! I was afraid we were going to have to live with this for a while. :yikes: lol

Anyway, he doesn't have a uti. Apparently his urinary tract is perfectly healthy. Three days after I posted this the scent disappeared. During stinky pee time he was really listless and had no energy, had a day of loose stools, etc. Generally not feeling well. The vet thinks it was a passing bug, and the pee smell was a coincidence.

Can eating something affect the scent of their urine? Talking it over with my friend, we realized it first started he was out having puppy time at her farm. We're thinking they got into something dead or gross, because her collie pup got sick the same day Strider did, for exactly three days with the same symptoms. Loki's urine didn't change smell though, he just wasn't feeling well and had messy bowls.
