Hey can you post updates so I can see how you do real looking hair? (like you did for the comic book style of hair?)

How do you spend so long working on a portrait? I wish I could do that. I'm a rusher. LOL. I try and take my time, but I'm too impatient. And I can't resist the urge to cross hatch. I drew a portrait of Tiku today, and tried to slow down. It took me half an hour. Erg.

Do you use a spray to prevent smudging? And how big do you usually draw portraits? I feel like I need to get some art supplies and really apply myself to something sometime.

If I spend a long time on something, I usually get sick of it and never finish it. Or I find something that I hate about it and scrap the whole thing. I don't think I've finished something that wasn't for work in the past 5 years...

I do use a fixative, but only after I'm done. Usually, I just stick paper under my hand.

I'm a bit of a perfectionist... well, my friends calle me anal when it comes to art. Even my little prismacolor sketches take a couple of hours. I used to never finish things, but now I'm getting quicker so I do. I have to have a bunch of projects going on at the same time. Most only take 5-6 hours. The Nikki portrait took 9, which was slow for me but really not too long. I think my digital is going to top at about 20 hours. >.<

Oh, and I will show you guys the updates as they come along. :D I'm really bad at explaining how I do things but maybe that'll help.

Hey Laurelin,

Not to rush you or anything, but do you think it will be done like by the first week of December? Just so it has time to be shipped and such?

Thanx so much for the updates, it gives me ideas :D I try to work from dark to light, instead of layering. This is cool (and looks really good)

Thanks guys!

Here's the latest update. I'm aiming for tomorrow evening or Fri morning to finish it. I'm really pretty pleased with it. :)

Before I send it, I'm going to have to go to the SCC to get a GOOD scan. Left eye is still not done, btw.
