Questions are great... Oficers aren't always afforded the time to sit and ask questions
I'm not saying they are. But I'm also not going to clap my hands and call someone a hero until I fully know if they are....

For what its worth, my boyfriend LOVES trashy newspapers and stories in them. I can't even stand the SMELL of newspaper and wont have them near me. Evil!!!

Although there was a fab article about raw fed dogs in Sundays paper I read over his shoulder..... ;)

I don't read newspapers either. I buy them for the coupons and the rest gets used to protect my floor from paint and glue lol

I am not saying the guy is a hero but i am also not going to accuse him of excessive force or being trigger happy

If evidence comes out to the contrary of what is being reported then yes, maybe then I will say the officer was too quick to shoot. However, as it stands, totally ok with him shooting. And as I said before, if it was MY son doing the face eating, yep, I would understand why they shot.

I finally heard the news story on this... this was messed up. The poor guy didn't just have one chunk taken out of his face but they said he was no longer recognizable. The guy eating him responded to the officer by looking up and growling at him with a chunk of the other guy hanging out of his mouth... ewww ewwww EWWW!!

But I do know better! Shot a half dozen times? WTF? Cop clearly hasn't watched any zombie movies...you're supposed to shoot them in the head to stop them. :p

And see with this...I suspect the officer didn't really want to kill the guy. Obviously, he tried to talk the guy down for a second and then he shot a non-lethal area. But the first shot/s didn't stop him..so he had to increase his force. Honestly if five bullets didn't do the job, I'm not sure a tazer would have been much better. Not to mention having to retrieve and restrain the guy. The guy clearly had no self preservation motives to actively eat a man with a gun pointed at him.

I do think there are plenty of cops that are trigger happy and the job draws a certain personality that I don't particularly care for. Particularly where it concerns dealing with my main concern (dogs). But this story I cannot find fault with the officer.

Not like any or either, or maybe like them all.

We have armed police, theyre just rare..... There must be what.... 20 people shot and killed by police in the last DECADE here? I don't know the stats to be honest, but its around that.

Eta, found stats. http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List...aw_enforcement_officers_in_the_United_Kingdom

Guess people just can't accept there's other ways of dealing with things.
i do accept this. there is a whole lot more to the issue than just whether or not cops have guns. although we don't brag about it, a huge percentage of our immigrants have always been criminals in their own country. the other large segment was independant/self sufficient minded that did not want a domineering government. so we have a social character predisposed to challenge authority, which includes our criminals. there are flaws w/ our system just as there are flaws in everyones, but so far this works best for us. we would appreciate if people in other countries would accept that.
my point about both britain & japan, where the vast majority of cops don't have guns, is that SOME do have guns even there. further in britain when a situation unfolds that needs guns to resolve it, the cop on the scene can't & they become nothing more than a better prepared witness for the follow on investigation. AND they call a cop w/ a gun.

Excellent post!

I really feel for this cop. Can you imagine??? Witnessing something like that? Having to respond to something like that? That's the kind of thing that puts you in therapy and wakes you up in the middle of the night in a cold sweat.

What are we arguing about? ZOMBIES. I'm glad I'm not a cop. I would have shot the guy and then waited outside of the hospital room for the other to turn.

Its the bath salts and synthetic marijuana. Makes people nuts. They have no control.

Love the zombie bullets! Have a couple boxes even though they are insanely expensive compared to the cheap Walmart ammo. Fin feather fur had a huge display a couple times ago we were there. We shot up a friends expired bullet proof vest and the only thing that went through was deer slug so if we have the zombie invasion that's what I'm sticking with!

Dog vs human?? Not the same situation AT all.

I for one haven't said what did or didn't happen on that bridge.... Might have thrown an idea or 2 out, but I haven't got a clue.

I'm the only one keeping an open mind though. Yes, even though one guy is in hospital. Even the most obvious scenes are pretty often not what you think.
Hypothetically.

If you witnessed one naked man literally eating the face of another naked man. The naked man growled at you when you politely asked him to stop eating the face of the other naked man. Would you wait till the first naked man was done eating to detain him?

Most American PD do not carry .22 hand guns. The standard here in AK is .40 S&W. A sane or sober person would not continue to dine on someones face after being hit center mast with such a round.

If I came across two naked men and one was eating the flesh of the other and I were carrying, which is legal here, I would shoot the cannibal and administer first aid until EMS could get to the scene.

I would not play a game of what if. If it acts zombieish, double tap to the head to be sure. I am dead serious. Zombies or someone on PCP are not to be trifled with. Im not saying Ive done PCP or LSD, but there is a feeling of unstoppable power.

Do you want to play a game of what if?

ETA: It was Puppydog who brought up the .22. I dont know what South African Police carry but the right .22 could possibly produce a through and through exit wound. A .223 from a police fired M16A2 could do the same, but I doubt the patrolman used anything but his side arm.

:lol-sign: "Synthetic marijuana"...

It's synthetic cocaine that is sometimes being passed off as "bath salts." Cocaine doesn't "make people nuts" in that way. Neither does LSD (another drug being "name-dropped" by the media in reference to this case). If there were drugs involved at all, my money would be on PCP.

PCP != Cocaine != LSD != Pot. Not all drugs are created equally, illegal or otherwise.
