Should moderators be able to delete their own threads IF...

Hey, even I agree with Jessie, and we usually do not agree because I am a flaming liberal and she's not. On this, a matter of ethics, we are totally in agreement. Now that should tell the mods something. If this stands and all Mods say it is OK, this board is going to change. A lot. That is one woman's prediction.
I really really wish they could bring the thread back. Deleting it made things worse because now everyone wants to see it and we won't stop talking about it which I assume is what was sposed to happen. And I highly doubt that deleting that thread was to keep Jessie out of hot water, if that were the truth I would expect the thread to be locked, not gone forever.
I personally am at a loss as what to say about any of this, I am just as confused and trying to find answers as the rest of you. I am definitely not saying it's ok. I am glad this thread was merged/left open for discussion as it should be.
People here (and other places) DO treat long standing members a little different, no doubt about that. You spend *time* with them, you get to know their past and present, you feel like you *know* them a little as well. If something like this were going down with drmom, Jessie, baxter, any of you, I would want to hear your side of it with proof if necessary.
Look how many times I defended squishy/reggin when the crowd was rounding on her.........turns out she was yanking my chain, but I don't regret defending her. I did what I thought was right at the time and I would probably do it again with any of you until I was shown differently.
That is all I have to say about this at the moment. I hope Foxy can come back and give us a reason to believe what she is saying, I truly do, until then I am going to reserve judgment as much as humanly possible.

I am actually amazed that Mods can edit/delete their own threads after a certain amount of time. I guess, I just assumed they couldn't for checks/balances.

You know I'm n ot sure this is so much an issue with mods deleting or locking threads in general....
but mods deleting their OWN threads willy nilly because they don't like it. or going back and editing their OWN posts from years ago to get rid of "evidence" and change the story to what they want it to be now.
That's abuse of power really... although I don't think power is the right word lol. abuse of priviledge.
If another mod had stepped in and locked the thread (as is done with every other thread... NOT deleted) then I'd probably feel differently but for a mod to do whatever they want whenever they want with their own posts is just wrong.
IF it is determined that a mod can edit and delete their own post whenever they want to then I think that courtesy should be extended to everyone. if a mod can edit a post from years ago on their own and can delete their own thread on their own so should the rest of us. that's not mod priviledge and that's not what the job description is.

I'm also trying to withhold judgement the best I can... It's hard with so many rumours floating about. I have/had no problems with Foxy. I just want to know what's up, because as some have said, it's a difficult situation when a mod potentially cannot be trusted.

Glad I am not the only one. I wish you all would wait until Foxy comes back. I know she has helped a lot of people on here and has had some very good knowledge that has been immensely helpful and the bashing is now looking like bashing for the pure joy of it. Whole business gives me stomach ache.

On a more serious note. I agree with ACooper. I am going to stay on Foxys side because I hate how this forum goes around digging things up. A lot of people on here have probably lied at some point or another. You haven't actually met her, so don't judge her. That sounds weird, but the feeling is what matters...

Fair enough. I just thought it was a little early. Although when I was mercilessly locking threads earlier, I did have a funny little mustache.
As to the issue of the original thread, rest assured that the moderator group as a whole is discussing what's going on. While the "mob" (lack of a better term) doesn't rule here (and neither to the mods, really), the input is certainly valued and taken to heart.
For example, I received three very nice PM's discussing these fire hydrant threads and why they were closed, explaining why you guys felt it was important to let the discussion happen. I saw the point and reopened the discussion.

I just hope that people don't dig up things I said years ago. Its not that I lie, its that over time I change my mind. I might intend to do one thing, or believe 'x' is the best and then change my opinion. (hey I did train with choke chains and e collars at one point)

Of course. That's life. When I came here I never thought I'd own any other breed besides chihuahuas (although I'd love more chihuahuas!). I learned a lot about Border Collies, and now both breeds are my favorites.

Now she's saying that she has her championship and is health tested, and actually came from a show breeder. This is where the confusion is coming from. Each of her dogs have many different stories as to where they came from, and she's claiming those past stories are now blatant lies (including lying about a foster dog).
It would be one thing if she said "Ruby is a showdog and she's mine" rather than "I rescued her and her sister from someone who pulled them from a high kill shelter."
