    How tall shoudl they be?

I've only seen 3 in person before. 2 of them were at the beach, a sable and a tri came over to talk to Sophie. They were probably about knee height? ish.

I just saw another one when I was down town. It walked past from behind me, with its full long coat. I thought ooo whats that. thinking some little terrier/fluffy mix thing. It turned around and I saw it, full sheltie head. But it was small. Like 20cm, halfway up your shin small.

Was it grossly under standard or just small?

Trey is 14 inches tall, and Nikki was as well. Trey is usually around 20 lbs, but he's always been skinny. Nik was about 23 when she wasn't chubby. Rosie, our past sheltie was 35 lbs. Shelties vary widely in height and weight, but the ideal is actually really fairly small. (In the 20ish lb range) At least here in the US, most shelties you see day to day are very large. Collie was crossed into the breed not that long ago in and attempt to standardize them and make them more showy, but a result of that was that we are still battling size issues. Even good breeders often produce dogs that are very oversized.

If it is 20 cm, then it's only 8 inches, which is very short though and much smaller than the papillons, actually. Trey's back is not quite to my knee.

I know this pic typically surprises people:

He's only a couple inches taller than the papillons.

This is about how tall shelties should be:

OKay, thanks. The first 2 I saw were definetley bigger and the one I saw yesterday was probably still slightly smaller than the sable in the bottom pic.
