Umm not very often? Unless your dog is sick or rolls in poo every day (even then I would use almost no shamopp) I would say once a month at most.

My guys get done more often in summer when they do get into stinky things. They can go a whole winter with out a bath and stay white and smell clean (slightly like dog, but they should, they ARE dogs lol)

I bathe the smoothies (Marsha and Gypsy--smooth coated) every three weeks since they sleep in bed with me. If they get dirty before then, then they get a bath a bit sooner.

The other dogs all get baths every six to eight weeks. I just brush them out a couple times a week and it keeps them pretty clean.

If your feeding a good food, you shouldn't have a strong odor issue or heavy shedding, just FYI. Also, regular brushing really helps keep down the dirt and the shedding.

Once a day and twice a day is WAY too much. My dogs get bathed every 3-4 weeks.

Yikes, I agree!
Once or twice a day is totally unnecessary and probably detrimental.

Other than that I'm not a good person to ask about bathing. Our version of a bath is to cram dogs and kids in to the mom-mobile and spend the afternoon at the river or at the lake.

LOL. I like my dogs clean since they hog my bed, but I know a lot of sheepdogs that are never bathed and despite that, they never smell bad. Sometimes good food is all you need to get rid of "doggy smell" (unless they've rolled in dead skunk like Harley used to ).

I'm obsessed with Mango Tango Earthbath shampoo, though, and I like to huggle and harass my dogs after they've been washed with it. :p

Jackson gets bathed once a week, or once every two weeks, which is pretty normal for a Yorkie. Since they have human-like hair, it can be washed more often, and often needs to be. But most other breeds, that would be too much.

Mine sleep in my bed, but wire hair doesn't get greasy and nothing 'sticks' unless its nasty... I end up bathing cause they smell, not cause they are dirty.

But if you bathe most dogs often you will get nasty coat and oily skin and MORE smell.

Yep, I've seen that happen with my grandparents' dog. She gets bathed 2 or 3 times a week and it's too much for her. Her skin gets flaky and dry and to make up for it, the skin produces a ton of oil which makes her smell icky.

Oh, mine sleep in the human beds also, but sheets wash too :)

With single coated short haired dogs like danes, a rubber curry really is all you need IME.

Unless of course they find the dead disgustingness in the woods to roll in, then yes, some mango tango would be quite nice....

Jack gets bathed about once a month - he's an easy dog to bathe, and any longer than that, his fur starts to look really dingy (he's white). I just bathe him at home using Buddy Wash shampoo.

Missy only gets a bath about every 2-3 months. She rarely has a doggy odor, and absolutely DETESTS baths. She gets a bath at the groomer whenever we have to take Jack in for a haircut.
