I really think Bula is suffering from separation anxiety. She absolutely hates it when I leave the house. She whines and cries and barks all the time. Dixie is their with her at home, but she still acts like this. And she is not at home alone all day long. I leave work and go check on her a couple of times a day, then I get off work at 4:00. It's been getting worse here lately too. She just came out of her first heat. Could that affect her in any way...

Oh, yeah, that affects them big-time. Female dogs get PMS, too. Shiva is the neediest, clingy-est dog in the world before, during and after! Bula sounds like she's got my problem (lol) POST Menstrual Syndrome. It hits right after, and EVERYTHING hurts your feelings; you feel rejected, dejected and will cry at the drop of a hat. Find her a soothing toy to chew on, and try massaging her in the evenings and briefly in the mornings and at the mid-day breaks when you come home.

At some point, though, you have to encourage her to stop being so self-centered, otherwise, she'll figure out it's a pretty good attention-getting racket and she'll never stop. . .

I never knew that...Bula is really clingy right now too. She really doesnt' want Dixie on my lap or beside me or anything right now. Bula has to be closer to me. That is so crazy....

I don't know much about dogs myself, but I know that they're very smart and quickly figure out what's really getting them all of our attention. Blondie does that, but when we stopped paying so much attention at his whining and crying (if it's just a sign of how spoiled he is) he'll stop and go play or do something else. He surely knows we all here love him to death, but he'll end up doing whatever he wants if he feels we're "at his paws".
