IF your going to try to rescue it that is a different story. I didn't get that idea from your orginal post. Do you have a heat source for it?

The reason i ask is because respitory infections are particularly painful to birds. Alone the chick will have a hard time retaining enough heat to keep that from happening. A small bulb in a lamp like the kind you use for a desk is perfect with a cloth draped partially over the cage, box or whatever you have it in. Or a heat pad but that is trickier and must be monitored carefully.

Yes, he's under a heat lamp.

Where did you think I was keeping it (this is an honest question)?
Wow, I seriously thought I was thought of as a better person than that.

As for calling him lunch and saying that he just won't shut up (it that's what you're referring to), uh, have you read ANY of my posts on this forum before. I'm always saying stuff like that, it's part of who I am. Haven't you ever heard the saying that actions speak louder than words?
:hail:

I DO understand how things become tongue and cheek and I absolutely admire the fact that this little chick will enjoy the life he deserves before he is used. Again, I think that you know that the treatment of the chick is not what bothered me about this thread.

The only reason that I posted is because everyone seemed to be poking at the members who did find looking at the picture of him, knowing that it's not REALLY your lil' pet, sad. That's when the tongue and cheek started and if you read back, it got pretty cruel.
Dr2, I just have to say that our comments weren't serious. Although I do actually squish ants, but excluding that, COME ON do you really think we'd bash baby seals on the head for fun? Really? Really?

And the reason I am 'poking' at these members is because it is so freaking rude to say stuff like that in her thread. I'm sick of it. If they think it is CRUEL to TAKE PICTURES OF AN ANIMAL AND YES I AM USING CAPS, they are being absurd.

Smkie, as to your comments on how she should just kill it because someone else isn't sure if the chick will make it... I don't know what to say, except that I am shocked PW is the one supposedly lacking compassion. She's treating it well, and you want to kill it because it MIGHT not make it, even though she is giving the chick the chance to?

I don't know where you are keeping him. I know a lot of baby birds that have been delivered to my door in a box. Already chilled. SO that is why i asked. THose people were kind people as well, they just didn't know how important it is for baby birds. It wasn't a personal opinion of you one way or the other.

Maybe i read your post wrong, but it sounded like the intent of having the chick was to eventually become dog food. IF that was the case, i don't see why a couple days of being by itself was so important. I would rather a fast death then a couple days of being alone if that is what the end result is to be. Maybe starting the thread "i am trying to rescue this chick" would have gotten the responses you want. THe "tongue and cheek" was misleading.

must have been this qoute that led me to that idea..."He said he really isn't sure whether it's going to make it through the next couple days though, but if it does I think we'll feed it in about 2 weeks"

The plan is for him to become dog food, when he gets older and is big enough to be a meal. That doesn't mean that I'm a cold-hearted person who doesn't care about what the bird is going through. I want him to be healthy and happy until his time comes to be fed.

I DO have right to tell her I find that sad.

I have yet to see any pictures anyone posted of their dogs kibble.

Would you take pictures of dying people in nursing homes and post them online? Why not..they are going to die.
and she has the right to tell you to get over it :) it's her opinion just as your opinion is that what she is doing is sad.

If I knew the person in the nursing home that was dying... yes I would probably take her picture.

but I mean if we are comparing that kind of thing... don't take pictures of ANY living thing because we are ALL going to die.

Just be sure that if Brian posts a turkey or deer thread... don't open it lol. it's just fair warning because there may be pics and they will likely be of an animal that is already dead.

i for one, love chickens. i think they are great pets
and i can also say that i APPRECIATE what she is doing,
that this little chick is going to be in a good home, comfortable, well fed, happy ect.. until he/she is gonna be food
look online for pictures of chickens in factories, i love people that raise their own chickens to eat, i thinks its amazing and very nice :) the chickens are all healthy and happy, even if their purpose is to be eating.. its better than a factory by far

i dont beleive in "out of sight out of mind" i know what those chickens in factories went thru, when i see chicken at the supermarket, that saddens me.
but sights like this dont, this chicken is going to be taken care of and happy.
and im sure killed in a humane way

one day, when im older and have lots of space, im going to raise all the chickens i eat :)
healthy for me, and it would give me peace of mind knowing that the chicken im eating is being fed organically and was healthy and happy doing what chickens are supposed to do. run in the grass, forage, eat bugs, run around ect..

Just wanted to let everyone know that the chick passed away about 20 minutes ago :(
*hugs* so sorry to hear that. :( Those respiratory things are really tough on birds in general, but especially when they are so young. You did the best you could. Thanks for making sure he was comfortable when it was time.

I'm sorry to hear about the chick, PW. =,( He was a lucky little guy to spend his last days with people who cared about him.

I find it VERY sad that the same people who consume young chickens who lived their life without any love, care or consideration in inhumane conditions without a second thought (as the vast majority of all feed chickens are kept - believe it or not) dare to criticize you for showing that little guy some kindness in his life. I suppose since he was intended as food (AGAIN, as 99.9% of chicks are) you really shouldn't have held him, or taken pictures of him, or really given him any attention at all. D:< Because THAT somehow makes you a sicko. Ughhaaa. I'm done.
