We woke up to frantic whining from Dante. When we got up to check on him, he had wrapped the ring from the crate water bowl around his head and was stuck. Luckily, there was at least an inch of room when it was around his throat, but was too small to pull back over his head with the skin, ears, etc... My wonderful husband got it off in 10 minutes (cutting) and there is no swelling or bruising, and he's fine now. But I will NEVER use a metal ring/water dish combo again. I've never had this experience happen, and hope nobody else does either. Luckily we had been home.

The offending ring.

Oh, poor little boy!! At least he had the good sense to wake you up!
I don't crate Gus, and never have! In fact I don't even own a crate!

I know there are good and bad stories about crating. We had great luck with Jac in crating, and that was only for the first 5 months, and then she was completely potty trained, and does everything with us. We only plan on doing it for the first 4 months, and then leaving an open kennel inside as his 'getaway' place. I'm just so happy he wasn't seriously injured. Right now he's playing happily with Jac.

I'm really glad he wasn't seriously injured too!!!
I'd never heard of people crating their dogs before I joined this site! I don't know if this is because I'm English? I certainly don't know anyone who crates or has crated their dogs!! Except of course working dogs that live outside in a kennel!
