Rimadyl and Cosequin

So, Skye has HD. I've been given Rimadyl and Cosequin for her. A 10 day course of Rimadyl and Cosequin 3 tabs a day, 40 days, then 3 tabs 3 x a week. I understand that Rimadyl is not good for extended use but I'll give her it for this 10 day period and by then hopefully will have found an alternative that is available here (in Spain).

Can anyone tell me anything about Cosequin? It's made by Bioiberica and the vet assured me it was the very best. Coincidentally the most expensive? There seems to be so many of these tabs on the market now though I've read liquid form is better. Any Spanish members have any input?

I'm quite upset about this as I feel I let my girl down. I knew she was stiff in the mornings especially after a cold night. Instead of taking her to the vet. I bought her a new bed. She seemed so much better after the colder weather passed that I kidded myself it was just age creeping up. Now I think if I had started these supps 6 months ago if there would have been less degeneration. I had been giving her arti-dual. Are these cosequin things so much better?

I had to give my dog Glucosamine/Chondroitin for arthritis. Cosequin is sold over here by vets. I'm not sure if arti-dual is the same or better. When I googled it, all the sites came up in spanish which I can't read.

Thank you for trying. I have the same problem. My Spanish is not great and obviously this is a Spanish manufacturer. The tabs contain both Glucosamine and Chondroitin as well as a cocktail of other things. I did receive an excellent reference from Otch which I am scouring now.

You know it was the whole debate about vets pushing food that is known to be less than the most nutritious that made me question this scrip. How far can we trust them to give us what is best as opposed to what the drug companies sponsor? Maybe that should be the topic of a whole other thread.

Our husky mix Princess has HD. She is given Ubavet Plus or regular Ubavet(liquid glucosamine) every night on her food and it seems to be helping her out.

There are some dogs at work that are on long term Rimadyl, but its off and on, they will be eased onto another drug, and go back onto Rimadyl. Its not that great of a drug for long term use.

My apologies for not responding. I actually did see your post a couple of days ago and thought I had replied. I guess I clicked off before I sent the post.

At the moment Skye is happy as a bed bug at a boy scout's camp. She was even before I took her to the vet. Spring finally sprung around here and I guess she's as relieved as everybody else that we've finally got our blue skies back.

I will do the ten day course of Rimadyl and take my friend along who is a good Spanish speaker and registered nurse here to see where we go from there. I'd prefer to have a liquid form of the g/c supplement though I must say she takes the Cosequin very well. They seem to be quite tasty as she takes them like a treat.

I'm also thinking that Cosequin is like Glucosamine...not sure though.
