Thanks to Barb04 for reminding me not to fall off the face of the earth. I would have given an update but things have really been hectic around here and I haven't even been getting on the computer but to check e-mail. I guess I should slow down a little. Brandi is doing a little better. It has been a few week since I last told you her condition. Heck maybe three weeks. Anyways...last week I took her back to Ohio State for her checkup on her TPLO surgery that was done. All thumbs up on that leg!!!!! WhooHoo!!! I asked them about her other leg that the other vet did, but they did not want to commit. He did say it looked like it was healing. But it still had the quarter size spot that kept seeping. The top part of it healel up real well but the lower part would not. So anyways the next evening my vet called and asked how she was doing. To my surprise, when I came home that day at lunchtime to let them out, Brandi met me at the door with her stuffed piggy in her mouth. This is the first that we have seen her get up on her own. Usually she will just scoot. So I was very happy with that. Anyways I told the vet that she finally was able to get up on her own after all of this time and he thought she was making good progress. It has been almost two months since the initial surgery and 2 weeks since he sliced her open again. I explained to him that we are still keeping a large band-aid and Neosporin on the small place that will not heal well and he said that was fine. I took her down the next day to get the rest of her stitches out from where he had cut her 2 weeks before. He looked at the leg, thought it was doing fine, pulled the stitches, and peeked under the band-aid. Surprisingly it looked like it was finally drying up. I also explained that she was still wearing the satellite dish on her head to keep her from licking the incision. He thought we could do away with that and her licking it would not hurt anything now. WhooHoo!!!!! My wife wanted to leave it on the rest of this week, but when we went to bed that night I left it off. Everything was OK. No licks. I came home to let them out at lunchtime and to my surprise...the little brat did not like the band-aid that was on there, pulled it off, and pulled out the last two stitches the vet had left in on that area. ARRRGGGHHHH!!!!! Now envision this....A dog cannot cut a stitch to remove it. So here is two small slices on either side of the bad spot PULLED thru the skin. Licked wet as can be and had been bleeding. A firm finger pointing and scolding, and a light tap on her ass made her know she did something wrong. So back to the satellite dish on her head while we are not looking. Probably for another week until things get scabbed over again. As far as her walking she is doing better every other day. One day she will hobble all over the house and outside, the next day she just kind of lays around. So every little bit that she walks will get strength built up in her legs. The TPLO leg is doing great and that is the one she uses to push herself up. The other leg shakes like crazy when she is walking or standing on it. So it is just a matter of time. The vet told me around for months for recovery. I just hope she can get back to the point of running and playing. If anyone else ever has to have ACL surgery doone...spend the extra money and go for the TPLO. I would swear by it. Anyways, gotta run for a few. I will keep you updated and not be a stranger for so long.

She has not lost any more weight than the initial 7 lbs. I think the reason being is that she is getting almost no excercise. The weather has turned crappy once again with rain and cold, and with the wife and I both working all she gets done is laying around. We have cut all snacks out and she is down to 4 cups of food a day. Two in the morning and two at night. Hopefully the weather will warm again, where we can get her out and get to walking a little bit more. I feel once that happens then she will start to drop a few pounds (hopefully she will). She has a long ways to go. I know her sister wants to play with her when outside but it is going to be a few months before that happens. I am trying to keep a positive outlook on all of this though. It is just going to take some time.

Oh Kevin, I'm glad you gave us an update on Brandi. I've been concerned about her. When you do take an updated picture, we'd love to see one. I can just see Brandi with her piggy.
