I am planning to feed my dog raw meals once or twice a week (I get him tomorrow woohoo !). Anyways, is there an advantage to feeding raw over cooked meat? I feel a little bit uncomfortable giving him raw chicken or raw beef . Are some of the nutrients lost with cooking it, or is it okay to feed them the raw meat. Thanks everyone.

I believe it is okay. I know that the more you cook the raw meat the more nutrients is lost. That's one of the reason's why I like my steak rare :D

Some of the nutrients are lost when cooked, and in the wild, dogs would not eat cooked meat, they'd eat fresh raw meat.

you can feed both raw and cooked.

it's true that "in the wild" dogs wouldn't eat cooked meat, but that doesn't mean it's bad for them or harms them, and raw is definitely not ideal for each and every single dog out there.

i strongly recommend the book "K9 kitchen your dog's diet: the truth behind the hype" by monica segal. you can order it from sitstay.com or directly from her site - monicasegal.com. it's the best book on home prepared diets for dogs and covers the pros and cons of both raw and cooked, and also contains a good number of sample recipes.
