Raw Bones ... Give or DON'T give

Hello all,

It's been a while since I have been on the forum.
I am at loss. Some say it's safe to give raw beef or pork bones to dogs to chew on and list the benefits; cleaning the teeth, massaging the gum besides ridding the dog of boredom. Others warn of raw bones and the dangers they impose; refer to the webpage below.

So, which is it ? Give bones or don't ?

Give. my dogs are all on raw now
they have no problems chewing or digesting the bones.

I believe the website is refering to cooked bones. Cooked bones can and will be very dangerous. They splinter easily, and can cause intestional damage or blockage...

Just make sure you do some research and make sure you don't give RMBs too small for your dog. We want them to actually chew it and not swallow them whole

As for the pics, I will try and post a couple. Roy now has a cmpanion.
Tia is a 1-year old female GSD .... she is soooooo affectionate. Although she is , maybe, half Roy's size she knows how to pin him down.

give! ive found lots of places now trying to use scare tactics to keep people on "veterinary reccomended diets" because lets face it if we all start feeding raw the petfood company goes out of buisness and the vet who is pushing those foods is making nothing now off them!

the way i see it is, dogs are decendants of wolves, doesnt matter how far removed...they eat bones, they are fine...how come as soon as we "domesticate" an animal it means they automatically cant work like the origional model?!

go for it, big beefy marrow bones are a favorite round here, knuckle bones another.
the only precautions i make is i make sure that center tunnel (where the marrow is) isnt the prefect size to get caught on an overzealous dogs mouth.

its only the last 50 years or so they been eating commercial foods anyway! go for it. my dog eats all bones and loves em. he does great

Thanks for all the responses .... that's what kept me wondering.
How come wolves in the wild don't have problems eating rabbit and buffalo and other wild game bones.

One last question, Roy has a very sensitive stomach and a pancreas problem [EPI] ... which is easier on the stomach, pork, beef or lamb ?

Give! all my dogs get raw bones..so far they have eaten:chicken, pork (one didn't do well on too much pork) beef, lamb, elk, deer, and many mice.

As far as bones it depends on what kind you mean? If we are talking about recreation bones then give raw knuckle bones and let them gnaw on them supervised until they get the marrow and knuckles off. I'd take them away after that. It's more likely they'll break a tooth on those weight-bearing bones.

Softer bones are great. Necks, backs, tails ... poultry bones ... for sensitive stomachs you might want to start out with chicken. Lamb is good too. One kind at a time and let them adjust.
