I dogsit for 5 salukis and a whippet, but they're not all that rare.

At the last therapy dog testing I met a Black Russian Terrier (wasn't testing, just there cause they had another dog that was testing). Also a Bouvier de Flandres (sp) that tested and passed! Wahoo!

I guess I meet enough Corsos I don't count them as rare. Met a Briard and a Bouvier before though. And Beaucerons.

Not sure if Tollers are still classed as a rare breed, probably not anymore, but either way, I've met several being that they're my favourite breed and I've talked to numerous breeders at shows. Besides them, I've met the following:

- Beauceron (2)
- Dutch Shepherd (1- pup)
- Akbash Dog (1)
- Anatolian Shepherd (2- somebody in my old neighbourhood owned them)
- Hugarian Mudi (2)
- Norwegian Lundehund (1)
- Norbottenspets (1)
- Pharaoh Hound (2)
- Ibizan Hound (1)
- Mexican Hairless (2 large, 3 small - unsure of proper terms for their size categories)

Most of the above breeds I've met at dog shows.

Quite a few Mexican hairless and A few chinese creted dogs, but they aren't all that rare here. Also a Komondor mix.

There is a very strange dog I've encountered online before...I must show you guys the picture when I find it some day...its a pit bull crossed with a chinese crested...the funniest and cutest ugly dog I've ever seen....you just want to cuddle with him but cringe at the same time....

I haven't come across too many rare breeds. But I am purchasing a pup that is (to me), quite rare, possibly next summer (if there is a brindle male in the litter). If not I am waiting for another 2 years:( What is this breed you are asking? A Perro de Presa Canario.

You've met a Lundehund?? They are my secret obsession! My father does a lot of traveling in Norway and Sweden, and I always try to get him to bring me one back. So...what was it like? I've actually heard almost nothing but bad things about them as pets. Still obsessed though;)

At least on Chaz, Manchester Terriers seem to be kind of rare....I even heard from a dog person in Manchester England who has never seen one in person LOL! Now I get to see one everyday at home:D Definitely the only one in the neighborhood though...

I had a neighbor with a Basenji, a farmer with a Komondor, a Ridgeback, a Crested (who was nowhere near as cute as Toby!), and of course, a Fila or two :D

I've also run across a few Irish Wolfhounds and a couple of Shar Pei, but it's hard to really consider those rare breeds even though you really don't see them around here.

Jindos have actually become quite popular around here- which is very exciting. Only a few years ago, most people around here would've thought a "Jindo" was some kind of a martial art, now I know of at least 4 or 5 that live around my neighborhood!

I also am nearly positive I saw a Kai Ken, or some mix thereof in the animal shelter I volunteer at. I would've LOVED to have taken this boy home, but as my school has yet to okay dogs living in university-sponsered apartments, I couldn't. :(

Aussie_Red! I saw a sharpai (sp) yesterday!!!

I was in a cab, and was thinking to myself now what is that, I knew it was Japanese/Chinese but couldn't think of the name, the cab driver's the one that told me it was a Sharpey.. He said it was a Japanese fighting dog.

That's as "rare" as it gets in my town. Other than that: Portuguese Water Spaniel (?) just because that's one of my coaches "breeds", Nova Scoatian Duck Tolling Retriever (?) there's one in Hades class and a Presa. All of these "rare" breeds are at doggy school. Never encountered anything "rare" on the street, other than that Sharpai yesterday!
