Okay... I need some opinions BUT please please please dont turn this into a debate thread... unless its civil!

When Armani was at the vet last time he reminded me that he is due for rabies... he wanted me to wait because we werent sure what was wrong with him that day... so anyway I have an appt soon to take him in for the shot.

I am just not sure if I should give him a 1 year or the 3 year shot.

Our vet is very open minded... he will basically go along with anything we want and is very open to the all natural route we take.

He said while he doesnt believe that the 1 year is any better... he knows some people swear that because it has less antigens it is healthier for the dog. He said he would do whatever I wanted... so what do I want? Haha... There is so much conflicting research I dont know what to do.

Keep in mind Armani is 5 pounds if that makes a difference... as well after puppy shots... our dogs ONLY get rabies.

Thanks.

Not sure you can titer rabies, as it's required by law. Here, it's required every year.

No history of reactions or anything?

I would definitely suggest doing the 3 year. Much of the time, the same vaccine is used as a one or a three year and it's only determined by labeling. They take the same exact product, a three year rabies vaccine, and relabel it as a 1 year vaccine. The less often you have to put this into his system, the better.

GO, as for being law, many places will accept medical excusals for rabies vaccines even without titers. Hemopet titers for rabies, I'm not sure that all labs will. However, it wouldn't be a good thing to do unless there really is a medical reason.

NYC is pretty strigent... I would worry that if I did titer and god forbid anything were to happen... it wouldnt hold up... I know thats kind of paranoid :rofl1:

corgi: what you said is what I saw a lot of places so I guess I will do the three year.

Thanks All.
