Question regarding vaccinations-again!

Ok. hypothetically if i get the pups first shot at a few days after bringing him home around 8 weeks would you be ok with taking the pup out camping, boating and going for walks. while keeping the pup away from strange dogs and areas dogs venture.

Socializing this dog is very important to me so I really don't want to keep the dog inside until he is fully vaccinated.

Yes, that's the sort of thing I do with my pups, take them out, but not to dog-heavy areas. And 8-9 weeks is an appropriate age to start the puppy vax series, that's when I start it.

I think that if you have not vaccinated your dogs against parvo and they have not gotten it, then you are a lucky dog owner.

Everyone has their level of acceptable risk, and if you are comfortable not vaccinating and only doing titers, then I would say that you have assumed your level of risk and are willing to accept the consequences. Nothing is full proof and I also realize that.

And for the record, I do think that it's only because vaccinations work so well for the population at large that people are able to choose not to vaccinate.

I stand by my posts and my opinion, though it is not my wish to offend anyone.

Personally, I wouldn't limit vaccines as a puppy, I'm way too paranoid. I really like the vaccine schedule that my veterinarian (holistic) has, which is DAPP (distemper, adeno, parvo, parainfluenza) at 8 weeks, 12 weeks, and 16 weeks. Rabies at 20 weeks. Rabies and DAPP at 1 year. DAPP given every three years thereafter or titered every three years. Rabies given every three years (or whatever's required by law where you are).

All other vaccines (bordetella, lyme, corona, giardia, and lepto) are optional, based on the area where you live and what the dog is going to be doing.

I would love to have a titer of my puppies distemper at 12 weeks. To know whether or not I should give the third one. I will always, always do rabies.

We had a foster litter get parvo and it was heartbreaking and one of the most stressful periods of my life. We did everything to prevent it and it actually scares me to think of having a young puppy again.

I do puppy set and two years later and then just rabies. We did booster everyone when the pups had parvo though.

Read about the window for the immunity to take. Even for some dogs the shots won't work if still drinking from mom.

Our vet reccomended bleaching yard before and after each trip outside with pups again as it could have been a bird leaving it in the yard. We were all crazy a while.
