Yikes! :-/ If I do co-owns, the purchase price is flat out halved. That only seems fair. That's what Kaia's breeder did with Kaia and me. Her puppies are too young to be bred and the one that I thought might turn out nice enough to breed is kind of awkward at this stage, lol, so might never happen.

The deal with Kaia was that the breeder footed all the breeding expenses, progesterone testing, surgical insemination, etc. I kept her, took her to appointments, and raised the puppies. We split the litter 50/50. If I wanted to keep one I could have had first pick, but it wasn't a situation to keep a 3rd dog in so they were all placed. She picked the stud with input from me, but then she has tons of connections with people and was able to find a stud I would have never even known existed (he died something like 10 years before Kaia was born. :p )

How did they want to split the breeding and puppy raising costs? Because that's where it's going to hit the hardest.

Option 1 they took her for the whelping and raising of the litter.
the other 2. I would have gotten to keep her and raise the litter. which none of the options I was comfortable with. It takes alot for me to trust someone with my dog, especially in their own home. And the other two options, seemed like a whole lot of work for very little to show for it. I would have paid for all her health testing and whatnots. Not sure who would have paid for the stud. I think it should have been the breeder after all they where the one picking the stud out. But I'm sure thats not quite how it would have turned out.

Thank you for that. I thought I was being a stingy tight wad who wanted alot for nothing. LOL

All in all I am quite happy with going back to Ivans breeder. Its definatly not a onesided partnership there. It sounds alot like the relationship you have with Kai's breeder.

Most of the contracts for my next dive bitch are along the lines of if I breed her, then her breeder gets one puppy back. Some breeders want to co own until finished and health tested. Not sure about going that direction though. One contract says I can't breed her to a stud who carries white. I would never do that anyways so it doesn't matter.

To me it's about finding a breeder who's type I like and is usining dogs I like. I will take the breeders input into a stud into consideration but its not required. I foot the bill and they get one puppy back. That's fairly standard and I'm ok with that.
