Our puppy does the same thing but he is biting HARD. He is also nipping alot. We tell him NO! but to no avail. The more we say no the madder he gets. Several times we've had to put him in his crate just to get him to stop. When we do, we don't yell at him, we just pick him up without saying anything put him in his crate and walk away. Are we doing the right thing? Any advice.

IT is really best just to redirect. WHat the puppy is doing is natural and normal. If he were with his litter they would all be chewing on each other. I have always had plenty of toys around and able to replace my fingers with something they could have. One thing to be careful of is not to pull the toy out of their mouth or play tug roughly. IF they hurt their mouths like this they will be less likey to redirect. This is only a stage and will not last long.

We always try to redirect. He has lots of toys, but there are times he just wants to bite. This is not chewing, this is biting hard. We only use the crate when nothing else seems to work. We don't like doing it, because we don't want him to associate the crate with punishment. He's a toy breed (papillon) and sleeps in his crate at night. He's 15 weeks old now. Don't get me wrong, he can be soooooo sweet and loving. He's the greatest - he just has his moments. We really hope it is just a stage.
