Puppy teeth AND adult teeth???

Hi there!

My puppy Karma is almost 6 months old. She is a VERY small pomeranian; she only weighs about 2.5 pounds. I noticed the other day when she was laying on her back chewing on a toy, that it looks like she had TWO ROWS OF TOP TEETH!!!! :yikes: It kind of freaked me out. I mean, I know she should be losing her baby teeth around this time, but it seems like she hasn't lost them and the others just came in behind them.

Is this really bad??? Should I take her to the vet, or will the puppy teeth fall out eventually?

Take her in to the vet. Let them have a look, if they are loose the vet may just flick them right out, if not she may need them removed. Toy dogs can have major tooth issues so it's best to have her seen by the vet.

She'll probably need to get them removed by your vet. Kassie had the same problem and they took them out when she was 10 months old, during her spay.

If you don't get them removed chances are they will not fall out on their own and cause problems to her adult teeth.

Dogs' oral health seems like it's one of those things that people don't really think much about, but then later on comes back to get you with the vet bills. One example is how people don't clean their dogs' teeth regularly by using dental treats like Bright Bites, etc, or chew toys. It's good that you caught that early, so you wouldn't have more problems later on with your dog's teeth.

retained baby teeth are INCREDIBLY common in toy breeds.
the vet will pull any left over when shes spayed...as long as shes not having trouble eating/pain its preferctly normal with tiny dogs, just make sure so give her lots of chewies and clean her teeth, retained baby teeth make it alot more likely for plauqye and nasty stuff to build up inbetween the teeth.

vixie has 2 retained canines which didnt get pulled at spay unfortunatly, no problems i just have to floss when i do her teeth.
