My brother is bringing home a puppy this weekend and has been asking me about food suggestions. He is going to feed a high quality grain feed kibble but we dont know if he should feed a puppy formula or just the normal life stage formula.

I have heard people say the puppy formula is just a marketing idea and that make sense, but i just dont want to give him bad advice. Any opinions?

Thanks,

A lot depends on the breed of the puppy, and the grain free food in question... some grain free foods have WAY too much protein and are too nutrient-dense for puppies. You want a food that's moderate in calories/protein/calcium so the puppy grows up slowly and steadily, especially if it's a large breed puppy!

I love Nature's Variety Prairie puppy formula. I feed it to all of my foster puppies and they love it, digest & grow up on it well and have only 2 poops a day. ;) It's available at any feed/pet store and at Petco. You could also feed the regular Prairie formulas, but I prefer to feed a good puppy food to pups at least for the first few months.
