marley, my 7 month old puppy, has started this nurotic (sp?) barking whenever me and my sister leave the house, when he is being left alone. and we live in the upstairs apartment of a house, and 4 of my good friends live in the downstairs. anyway, i think they are starting to get REALLY annoyed with him barking as soon as we leave. he apparently does it the entire time he is alone. you can hear just about everything that goes on up here downstairs. i dont want them do get mad at me because he is barking. he has toys and stays babygated in my sis's room when no one is here. we have to keep the two dogs seperated right now because shelby is on heartworm treatment. i dont know what to do to make him stop barking! it just started about last week, he was good before. and when he starts im sure shelby starts barking too, and she cant be stressed out. any suggestions? its really starting to stress me out because first, its annoying that i can hear him all the way outside when i drive in, and second, the girls complain about it. (which makes me mad because she has a dog too and just because she lives downstairs i cant hear everything that goes on, but she runs around and plays with her dog a lot, but when i do that i get complaints because its too loud! they asked me to live in the upstairs, they knew i had dogs, anyway, now im just starting to vent. sorry) :(

any suggestions would be really appreciated! thanks in advance! :)

Hi
it sounds like he never really got trained to be alone.. if you move to fast with the training it´s not rare that the dog/puppy will ( after beeing cool with it ) go back to being worse than he was to begin with..
Also it might have something to do with not training him to be totally alone, it sounds like he is used to having your other dog there..

start over with the training and i´m sure he´ll be fine.

Many times its the act of leaving that scares the puppy. Once you are gone, it'll eventually go back to doing whatever it was doing.

One thing you can do to help with the process is to do the things you normally do when you get ready to leave when your not leaving. For example, pick up your coat and put it on and walk around the house. Pick up your keys. Etc.

Basically just help the puppy dis-associate those actions with you leaving.

I just leave the room and she starts whining and screaming. I tried to ignore it but she just gets louder and she will not stop. This has been going on for almost 3 weeks now and I don't know what I should do. She seems clingy, if she wants me to pick her up and hold her but I don't, she will sit on my feet and sleep there.
