Puppies don't like their food!?

My two golden retriever puppies (7 mos. old) were eating their dog food just fine until 3 days ago. Saturday was their first full day out in the yard (no fence) and they have been really good to stay at home -- except for a few visits two doors down where another dog lives in a pen. I'm wondering if they are eating at that house since they are not eating their food at home.

Is it possible that they just decided that they don't like to food? I even put beef broth in it and added weiners. They just ate the weiners and left the rest!! Should I try another brand of food? Any suggestions? I am currently feeding them (or trying to feed them) Iams.

Iams is not a very good food. There are some premium foods which you can't get at the grocery store. Pet stores and some farm and feed type stores supply better quality foods. One that comes to my mind which seems to be particularly palpitable for a lot of dogs is called Chicken Soup For The Dog Lover's Soul. Yup....just like the book. They have a puppy forumula too. Check out the food forum for other ideas. There are loads of threads in there about it. Another one which is quite good is Kirkland brand from Costco...good ingredients and my dogs are loving it. It's very reasonable in price too.

Your puppies should not be wandering out of your yard. They could get hit by a car or get into something that could really harm them. My son and his girlfriend just had their dogs hit by a car....both of them and they were seriously injured. Mary's dog had to have one leg amputated. And my son's dog almost died from a ruptured bladder. She also had her pelvis broken. She is okay now, but it was very touch and go for a while. And it cost over $2,000 in surgeries and other care. So, please keep better tabs on your puppies. Puppies can get into the most awful things...poisons from yard care products, rat poison that neighbors might put out for rodents, anti-freeze, objects that can choke them or cause deadly intestinal blockages. Puppies need constant supervision. Even if yours are pretty good about staying in the yard, there is always the chance of something more motivating to them outside of the yard and you never know when they might take off and run out and get hurt or killed.

If wandering, they could also get into things that could harm them. A client's dog at work was euthanized today after being poisoned. He had treatment but, not knowing what he got into (wasn't antifreeze) he never recovered and went steadily downhill.
