Hi Friends,

We're pet-sitting a relative's pompoo who caught her claw on the fence and yanked it out! She didn't even cry or limp or anything! It bled for a while then stopped. I'm taking her to the vet at 5:00. My questions are: will it grow back, and HOW DO I TELL MY RELAIVES!!!!!!

tell them it was an accident..that it probably wont grow back if the whole nail was gone..and that is one less to cut from now on..what cant be changed is just that and an accident is an accident. My pointer Bin lost one and lived a long and happy life without..so don't worry..as long as it isnt infected it should heal just fine..keep it clean.

things happen and that is just the way it is. I was working as a groomer and kennel person when a irish setter came in with a baseball sized matt behind it's ear. I felt down and down to a tiny little bit of tangled hair at the bottom of the matt. I asked my coworker if this was the bottom of it..and she said she tought it surely was..it was just a little twist of fur. I cut it and a whole opened up on the back of that dog's head that almost made me sick to my stomach. I took the matt to my boss and she examined it (very upset about the dog) and found that the dog's skin had been twisted up inside of the matt where it suffocated and died..i didn't do it..it did require a vet trip. The hole was more then an inch in diameter. The dog was supposedly a "show dog" and the owner upset. My point was why did they allow a matt to develop like that on a show dog in the first place but of course we weren't allowed to say that..sigh....Bin never acted like his toenail hurt either but oh my when his daughter split her nail losing the hard covering over the nerve she suffered terribly. YOur pooch and my pointer were lucky in comparison.
