We had one lone survivor of the incubator experiment. My daughter named her Princess Passel. lol. We're going to try another batch of eggs from a friend. This time all the kinks should be completely worked out.

There would have been 4 this time around because there was terrible fertility to begin with, but the thermostat got bumped halfway through incubation. The lady I got them from had 1 rooster to about 30 hens, and I have no idea how old he was. Apparently he didn't get around to everybody because I had a dozen to start with. It looks like Princess Passel is an only chick. We're going to sell her once she's started and going to survive for sure.

She's really healthy though. It surprised me actually. I've got a fleece bag I've been wearing around my neck and carrying her around so she doesn't get lonely. Feel kind of bad that she's an only bird for now. My sister found a cockatoo beanie baby so we'll put that in her brooder tonight for her to snuggle.

Here's a terrible picture of her.

Awww, she's cute! what kind is she?

I also totally understand feeling sorry for her being an only chick...when we were fostering a gosling last year it was sooooo sad to hear it peeping all by itself when we went to bed at night :( I swear I would have taken that thing with me everywhere if I could. Plus it imprinted on humans, so it would follow me any time it was out <3

Good luck with the net round!

She's a barred rock. I rearranged part of the incubator to work as a brooder for a couple of days. Right now she's cuddled up to the beanie baby. lol.

Oh man, one time I had a lone turkey poult because our cat killed his brother. He was soooo loud all by himself. All night it was BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP! for hours. Finally I ended up just putting him on a washcloth on my pillow with another washcloth for a blanket. He was awesome. He slept on my pillow every night until he was about 20 lbs, and never once soiled it (phew!). He was totally awesome and was so tame. He loved sitting on my dad's lap in the evening and his favorite show to watch was CBS news with Walter Cronkite. :rofl1:

Well if she made it through the incubator experiment she's probably pretty robust! She's cute! Post more pics when she starts feathering out (the awkward stages are some of my favorites :p)

She's cute. That was too bad you didn't get more. Maybe next time, huh. That's a pretty cute story about the turkey poult (don't know what that is) sitting on your Dad's lap. LOL.
