This is the portrait of the horse who was recently deceased. At least the person who picked it up seemed to like it.

These are the color xeroxes I worked from, the one on the left was for the pose, the other to show how much he'd lightened up over the years.

Thanks everyone. I really wasn't sure I could make this work and I'm still not sure I 'caught' him. The pose xerox was fuzzy and and with the one showing him more white, I couldn't tell what was shadow and what was coloring. He almost looked flea-bitten (for non-horse folk, that's what they call speckles on a white horse).
I keep a 'morgue file' of horse photos from past portraits, so I wound up looking through that for a horse with a similar build and pose, just to find some detail for the muzzle and eye areas.

I was thinking from looking at the photos..how in the world were you suppose to tell where the dappling ended and the shadow began. THat was a difficult one! White and silver are so hard to begin with. You did a magnificant job.

Umm, was this post meant for Snark? The price list that mom of 2 pups posted above is mine (thanks mom!), but the original post was Snarks, and I'm sure she would love to give you her information as well if that is what you were looking for. If you were directing this post to me, please feel free to email with any questions that you may have. :)

Nice job.

I like it. Very clean and excellent line work. The colors look so smooth and soft. Nice style. I do feel it looks a little flat though. Maybe some softer line work in some areas would add some more depth. A background isn't always necessary, but in this painting something simple could help with the flatness. That's just my opinion...I've seen drawings and paintings that have a stylized flat look to them that look great like yours. However, most of the art that I have seen that have that flat look to it are more graphic orientated with more content in them to help support one another. Overall, I think it came out great!
