There is a myth, pitbulls are aggressive with other dogs,
my friends have a pit bull and he is totally fine with other
dogs, he was trained to be nice and sociable, Chiwawa and Poodle
can be more aggressive then a pitbull. If a Pitbull aggressive with
other dogs, there is a strongest possibility an owner missed something
while training his baby

Look at these picture, nice, well behaved, friendly dogs

Lol!

Lewis, thanks for the information, it's always nice to meet another pro-pit person out there. This board is a haven of sorts for pit-bull lovers, so while it's nothing most of us didn't already know, it's appreciated nonetheless.

Not ALL pit bulls are dog aggressive...but any pit bull has the potential to BE dog aggressive..its in their genes...they were bred to fight other dogs...and a pit bull should never be trusted NOT to fight with another dog...

Just because a pit bull may be friendly towards another dog at one moment, it doesn't mean it'll be dog friendly its entire life..alot of times, people make the mistake of taking their young pits to offleash dog parks thinking its perfectly fine, and realize that one day their dog gets into a serious fight with someone else's pet....they don't realize that pits reach full maturity at 2-3 years of age...and some (not all) will become dog aggressive at that stage...simply meaning: They need to be supervised around other animals at all times, and simply not left offleash with other dogs...more precaution needs to take place is all...

Yes, I totally agree. You do not have to train a Pit Bull to be dog aggressive, if it's there it's there. You just learn to manage it.

Exactly...what ticks me off is that some people automatically want to ban them because they think its a really big deal..as if its some abnormal monsterous behavior..

Not to mention, really pathetic shelters that refuse to adopt out pit bulls or euthanize them just because they are pit bulls...now that is one heck of a stab in the back...

I would never trust a pit bull alone with another dog and I would never take one to a dog park. They have a tendency to be dog aggressive and I wouldn't want to take the risk of the dog getting in a fight. That being said, I think pits are generally pretty nice, sweet dogs.

I've owned a Pit Bull that was dog aggresive.. I know not all are, but some are and you just have to be careful with them. They are very sweet dogs, indeed.

i do agree here, yes if they grow up around other dogs they may be ok around those dogs and and maybe others but thats the exception not the rule...if another dog trys to show dominance to the pitbull the pitbull only has one gear it takes fighting very serious there is no pecking order rule with them.they dont back down or show teeth as a warning like other breeds do they do what they do ...fight,like i stated above its the exception not the rule,i love pitbulls an own a adba reg male and hes awsome he wont mess with little dogs but put a rotty or mastif type where he can see it and you can forget it,put a poodle or lil mut there he will play.good luck

My Dix is animal aggressive-away from home, but you can bring another dog into my home and she's fine. Plus she lives and gets along w/ 4 other dogs in my house. My peke, now he's aggressive! My oher pit is a gentle giant, and 15yrs old!!! There is always that tendency, but you learn to manage it.

Un Dog Agressive Pit Bull

This is Sable she is the friendliest dog i've ever met. Her she is with one of her many dog friends Raffiki. She is great with my little maltipoo and with every dog unless it gets up in her face or trys to take her stick. This dog rakiki and her play fight 24 7 and Sable has never snaped at her and Rakik always trys to take her stick balls treats etc. (I have a Thread In Dog General Chat Called Pit Bulls And Staffadshire Terriers Can Be teddy Bears) It says lots about Sable and has more pictures. Sable was neglected and abused as a puppy and wasn't socialized at all so she has all the right to be people and dog aggresive but she isn't. (Click The Picture To Enlarge)

Thats really awsome that you have so much fun with your pals..awsome,you still must be carefull around strange dogs....for the other guys dogs sake, also the staffy or Staffadshire Terriers are not game like a American pitbull Terriers so they are better with other dogs, but anyway have fun but just keep an eye on them. good luck:)

I know we are she is always walk on lead unless with her her main owner Arwyn. Not that she has ever shown any signs of aggression but we now that if a dog ever started a fight with her she would no doubt come out the winner, If she got involved. She could then be put down or tooken away. So we are always very careful.

OK, I know I said nothing new - but not all people think alike, right? My intention was to deliever the good message :) about pitbulls to people who think this breed should be banned. That was my little plan. Maybe I chose the wrong place though, but you never know..

Please don't get me wrong .I love pitbulls, but they must be owned by experienced dog owners who practice caution and responsibility .If these type of people owned them there wouldn't be many problems with them. Its true to some degree when people say its the way the owner raised it .. But you cant train the fight out of a dog that's been bred to fight for hundreds of years in a single generation or more .the Staffadshire Pitbull Terriers been bred to take most of the fight out of them and required many years to do so, but still you must be careful with them, if you do they make awesome pets,i had my boy an 11 month old apbt play with my neighbors little 12 week old female pitbull ,and he never so much as put a tooth on the pup, or knocked her down for that matter, well for the most part. when he did it was an accident, he was very excited to play. And yes, I was watching over him like a hawk.

If you take a Pit Bull to a dog park and it gets into a fight it is usually because Pits are less likely to back down from a Dominant dog (Pit Bulls are often Dominant .... not aggressive). When two dominant dogs meet and both refuse to submit....you have problems. It is the owners job to train the dog (of any breed) to channel their dominance away from aggression. Also when Pit Bulls do get into fights they take it a little more serious than some other dogs.
