My friend has a sheltie that has a bit of ruff scale on the nose and the pigment has changed from dark to pink, on the nostril, and a little above, not like a snow nose, much pinker. THe gums have gone from dark to pink as well. Logan does not seem ill, was on anitibiotics weeks ago but not now. I haven't seen anything like this has anyone else got a clue? The gums are not scaley, but there is a big change in color. THey did not look red or swollen.

I would take him in and get a skin scraping done. It could be an autoimmune disease such as democedtic mange. It could even be dermatomyocitis.

I would go to the vet. BUT . . . it may be nothing. Apparentally some kinds of feeding bowls / drinking bowls will change the color of a dog's gum. (I don't remember what kind, maybe metal?)

My dog had a small pink spot appear on her nose--not the whole nose, just a little part of it . . . and it turned out to be nothing other than a random pigment change.

But it's always best to test, to be safe. :)
