The OP is obviously trying to get a rise out of us anyway, and admits it.

Katt,

Just imagine if every Joe Schmoe bred his dogs, like your friend.
What we are trying to get at is breeding should be left up to the profesionals. Did your friend check for luxating patella's? Did he health test them before the breeding took place? ESPECIALLY with small dogs, breeding is very dangerous and can be lifethreatening.

And mixing two breeds of dogs isn't making a new breed. When the breeds were created, the creaters had something in mind. Either a certain look, or an ability to do a job etc. Multiple breeds would go into making the outcome.

Good post Herschel :).

mixed breeding i'm pretty sure... lol

things I've learned from this thread to reflect on:

"if you buy a dog from a professional breeder you are helping perserve the breed"

"if you buy from a breeder just starting out, you are killing a shelter dog"

"if you buy a mixed breed from a professional breeder you are killing a shelter dog"

"if you buy from a BYB or Puppy Mill you have sinned"

"if you buy a mutt from a BYB or puppy mill then you are probably going to hell"

"if you save a mutt from a shelter you sprout angel wings"

hmmm, I have the wings already but I still think everyone thinks I'm going to hell....

hahah p.s.
apologize if i offend anyone who favours religion or christianity in any way!

A person who makes mutts and sells them as some special breed for an insane price when there are the same mixes dying in shelters and doesn't do all the health testing or gain any titles on their dogs is not a professional breeder. That is a backyard breeder. There are people who breed purebreds who are also backyard breeders.

And can you please find and quote where someone said you're going to hell for buying a dog from a BYB or puppy mill. . .?

Travis, just wanted to say that Coda is adorable. Such a cute little face!

I won't engage in any of the "who-is-right-who-is-wrong" banter...as I feel that we've argued it to death, we've covered it 100,000,000 times, and in the end, most people do as they please anyway.

I do understand the importance of trying to educate and inform people of the in's and out's of responsible and irresponsible breeding. But, as a teacher, I can tell you that NO ONE will learn anything by being preached to...it is just not how most people accept information. I can understand how emotions run high on these issues on the forum, and it's understandable. We do have a responsibility to direct people to do the right thing, but even I would not have been terribly receptive to what was being said to me as a new member, if it were stated in the spirit of hostility, sarcasm, or belittlement. It simply won't change what has been done, nor will it redirect the OP's line of thinking.

That's all. ;)

But on a serious note, I do think you accomplish more without immediately bashing and looking down your nose at a new person and their beloved puppy. I believe it's called being polite.

Funny how people can preach positive interaction with their dogs, but be so quick to forget the concept when dealing with people.
OMG. Favorite person of the day.. the week.. heck, maybe the whole month! :hail: :hail: :hail:

And oh my...

I've been nothing but polite to you in this thread. I hope that you don't group me with the supposed smugness that plagues this forum.
Thanks for the laugh this evening! I really did LOL.. :D

CUTE PUPPY! Look at his little face! How did they get a Golden and a Mini Poodle together? :yikes: Maybe a step ladder? :D While I don't agree with buying a dog from a less than reputable breeder..I hope he's healthy and that you enjoy him. He's so sweet looking.
