My all-time favorite though is from a co-worker at my day job...

I was telling her that Buzz eats raw meat. And then I told her we sell multiple brands of it.

She's absolutely convinced that anyone buying raw meat/food is secretly hoarding tigers and lions... :D

I don't know whether to laugh or cry at those, because they're freaking hilarious but sucky that we actually have to have those conversations on a daily basis.

If you have a lion, I want to come over and hug it. I love lions. I have one on my credit card.

"I can't feed him lamb, that's horrible!"

I guarantee you that the lamb is older than the poor chickens that go in your dog food, lady.

"How can this bag be so expensive?!"

You go to the grocery story and try to buy 20 pounds of salmon for less...

I know this isn't dog related but..."If I buy that bunny, and don't feed it as much, will it stay small?". Completely serious.

Whoever started that godforsaken myth of ____ will only grow to the size of it's cage/tank should be lynched.

A co-worker who used to be in charge of fish at Petco had a conversation with a family that wanted a goldfish, but would be suited better to a Betta. When my co-worker suggested a Betta their response, completely serious was:

"But you can't pet Betta fish"

"I want a good weight loss food."
"What do you feed now? How much do you feed a day?"
"I feed blah blah blah brand. I don't measure his food I just feed him however much he wants to eat."
"Okay, well if you want him to lose weight it'll go much quicker if you feed him a set amount each day."
"Oh I don't want to do that. I just want a weight loss food so he's eating fewer calories, but can still eat whenever he wants."

Logic at its finest.

To the disabled posts. There is a couple that I work with that have a very young OES. No control or training whatsoever. This couple is in their 70's, the guy can't walk and the dog has pulled him over multiple times. The woman isn't in the best physical shape either, but lets the dog pull her to the point where she is RUNNING to keep up. But it's okay, because their other OES failed/got kicked out of Obedience class and turned out just fine, so this one will too.

Okay, that's cool. Poor thing is seriously under socialized, under trained, and gets no mental and limited physical stimulation. I feel bad for this dog.

To all those that work at a pet store, grooming center, vet office, or anything else pet related. I am sorry. I don't think I could do it. Vast majority of the pet owners just suck. "Oh, I feed my dog, walk it sometimes, and take it to the vet when it is sick or needs shots if I feel necessary." Alright then. I'm no saint, but dang.

Oh yeah I remember one from a few weeks ago..guy starts asking me about his dog's impacted anal glands. He went online and figured out how to express them himself (ugh) but they kept filling. So now he wants antibiotics. No no no to the vet, so I got onto the well what do you feed him? Oh, he's really picky, he really only likes liver. I about fell over...I know everybody here feeds raw..but JUST liver? Ack. At least I convinced him to try really hard to put him back on some solid dog food, to firm everything up.

Actually I think the whole 'picky' dog thing gets to me the most. Oh, he's really picky, I've tried ALL the dog foods and he won't eat anything! Yeah..that's you training him to be picky..not the dog ;). No one believes me either.

It's like...don't you realize you're getting close to the end of a bag gradually? It's not like it *poof* disappears one day.
I will admit that more than once I've thought there was more food in the Vittles Vault, opened it to refill the smaller container, and gone "...oh. oops."
Nobody has ever starved though LOL.

Overweight pets. Particularly in agility classes. Urk.

"Spoiled" dogs with fleas. and super long nails. or bad teeth.
It just..does NOT COMPUTE.

I have seen a few yorkies and a lhasa recently with the very expensive carriers, the super exclusive collars, the outfits etc.. (which I'm totally fine with, in themselves).. but who are COVERED in fleas/have rotten teeth. I don't mean a couple they picked up at the park.. I mean FLEA DIRT, EGGS, FLEAS like they've been hanging onto this dog for a WHILE and BROWN teeth

What.
the.
hell.

And if I mention it people are like "Oh god! I NEVER EVEN NOTICED!".. how the hell did you not notice that?!
Basic care should be so far ABOVE accessories in the world of things we do for our dogs.

Blows my mind that people still BALK at the price of quality food, flea treatments, nail trimmings..
all the while toting the $800 louis dog carrier. and buying YET ANOTHER pretty collar for their dog that is so vastly over-priced at those little dog boutiques it should be illegal.

When I'm carrying a bag of food for you, please don't tell me that the food weighs more than I do. The largest bag of food we carry is 50lbs, and I weigh about three times more than that. Please don't tell me that it's impressive that a girl can carry such a big bag of food. If I couldn't, I wouldn't have this job.
OY, THIS! I do a lot of lifting. I seem to be the only one at work that is capable of lifting a dog up or taking food out for someone, even though we were all asked if we can lift 50 pounds before we were hired. I regularly lift dogs much heavier than that - 80-100 pounds is normal. Even when they're more than I can lift, I can still control them. Our newest employee is small, probably 110-120lbs. Her excuse for EVERYTHING is "This dog weighs almost as much as I do!!1!!!!11!" and it drives me NUTS. You should still be able to control a dog. She is genuinely incapable of walking a dog that pulls. It pissed me off so bad. I don't know why she is here when she can't do her freaking job.
