I've met a handful of Pips (and Pippins), a handful of Maisys (various spellings), and one other Squash (other Squash is a cat, though).

I'm having a hard time coming up with future puppy's name. We're set to get a female, and girl names are SO hard. Most of my favorite dog names are male names. Plus it's got to live up to Henry's awesome name; Henry Christopher Peabody Smith. The Peabody came from calling him Sweet P and my maiden name starting with a P. It just morphed into Peabody when he was two or three. Now when we are talking about him we call him Mr. Pea or Peabody. :rofl1:

I LOVE the name Sloan, but don't want to be a copycat lol. My only girl names so far are:

Ledare
Karter
Ruthie
Phoenix
Darcy
Devi
Drew
Grace
Falon
Bug
Kobe
Bean-Yeah, we're basketball fans.
That's my name

Squash's name could never be anything other than Squash.

My favorite golden is named Webster. He's so sweet and you wouldn't mind sharing a name with him. :)
Webster doesn't like sharing but I'll give him a cookie and he'll change his tune :p. A cookie, mind you, not a Cookie.

I still am accidentally called Kim by a few people I only know through dog sports and who I see very infrequently.
I no longer blink or correct people who call me Meg. I just go with it.

I am terrible at naming animals, and probably would have just kept both dogs' original names if they hadn't been so bad (Meg was Spice - which converted to Nutmeg and then Meggie and then Meg, and Gusto was Gonzo at first - it was a Muppet litter - and then just "PupPup" at his foster home, because she said if she named him he'd never leave).

What's sad is now Kim is semi-retired and not with me at agility trials unless there's room for an extra crate...and there is a human named Kim who is at a lot of trials...and when people yell her name I sometimes turn thinking they mean me...lol

Yeah I would have kept original names but for the same reason...Kim was Cookie at her foster home (oh the irony...lol). Webster actually had his original and we considered changing it since he didn't answer to it, but soon realized it was a perfect fit. Mira's puppy name was Winnie which quickly turned into Whirlwind Winnie (short for Winning Colors...the whole litter had famous racehorse puppy names and a lot of them kept those names...Curlin, Rachel Alexander, Bullet, Whimsy (Whimsical)...) but Winnie sounded too much like Webster

Cricket and Journey are not particularly uncommon - I know a handful of each. I also know a Brittany who has the exact same call and registered name as our Journey, so apparently we weren't being as original as we thought. I've never met another dog named Newton, and I like it a lot, although we keep having to explain that he's named after the scientist, not the cookie.

Trent's nicknames are Puppy and Faboo (my friend started this, it's short for Fabulous Magical Glitter Unicorn).

Oh, and a**hole. That's the most common one.

Bree cat's nicknames are Fatcat, Cheesecat, Doll, and Kitten.

Squirrelcat's nicknames are (besides Squirrel/Squirrelcat) Weasel, Spazz, Ghost, Zombie, Spawn, Little Girl, and "that freak of an animal that hides under the bed".

I have a pathetically long list that I really need to shorten. But it is on my computer and I'm currently on my android so I can't fetch it. But off the top of my head, I have always wanted to name my dogs these names -- Ricochet, Ruon, Aero, and Matryx. Those are my 4 favorite names in the whole world, and honestly I have no idea why. (Oh look they're all male names, go figure.)

Now I'm really hoping no one steals them, because those are the only names that I haven't been extremely indecisive about :p
:rofl1: Bearer of bad news here. Ricochet is literally the one and only name on my "Future Dog Name List". I wanted a crazy girl working bred German Shepherd, and I'd name her Ricochet and call her Chet (Shay) for short. And Ick/Icky when she's being bad :p

I don't know about using it, though. It's not a great or especially clever name, but I really like "word" names and names that can be shortened into a number of nicknames (someone remind me again, how did I end up with a Trent?). It's definitely a name I want to use, but it'd have to be the dog with the right personality.

I know a female Ricochet! :D
Woah, cool. I never really thought of it as a girldog name, and actually felt a little weird about wanting to use it for a girl. That's why I figured Chet/Shay would work as a nickname.

I actually don't mind at all when I hear about or meet other dogs with the same name. Just so long as it isn't everywhere.

This made me laugh :rofl1:

Falon and my name side by side. Oh man, if you get two dogs and name one Grace and the other Falon, it's going to get confusing for me on Chaz!

Really? I always thought of it as a male name, with a nickname of either Ric/Rico or Chet (pronounced 'Shay').
That solves the problem. We'll just have to have Richochet/Chet girldog and Ricochet/Chet boydog.

I... I keep a word document.

Some of my favorites:
Rue
Atlas
Briggs
Farley
Lyric
Allegra
Adagio

My dogs have all sorts of embarrassing nicknames. Lola most of all :lol-sign:. Brindle-Beast and Fudge-Muffin are my personal favorites.

I used to really want to name a horse Ricochet... I've only ever thought of it as a female name though.

This is perfect. :lol-sign: Then we can bombard Chaz with our Ricochets. :D

ETA: Crystal's nicknames vary day to day, lol. Her most common are Cryssie, Foxy Doggy, Fox, Fluff Butt, Crystal-y Crystal, Fluffy Fox, and Fox Dog.

As far as having original named pets currently... LOL.

Rosey I named after myself (my middle name is Rose). She gets called Bug most of the time, though. Or Babe.

Rascal came with his name. Renegade and Rogue were named by Allie and Matt, came to me as Gridd and Nyx. Harley came as Harley. Ella came as Bella, and ew twilight. Nacho cane as Marley, right after we named a foster Marlee, so Fran named him

Yes! I approve of this!

But just watch. In 2-3 years when/if I do have a second dog, I'm going to decide to name her something completely different just a week away from picking her up. Like Shovel.

lol Hubby keeps threatening to name our next dog Garlic, solely because it's the worse name he's thought of so far. Evil.

I love unique/unusual names :) It might have something to do with working in the dog daycare industry, but I just could not give my dog a common name. Before I got Rowan, I REALLY wanted to name my dog Ozzy, and now I'm so glad it didn't fit him because I know so many Ozzys! I still think its a great name, just not for one of my dogs. Similarly, Riff was Jaxon, and I've known several Jacksons so I changed it. (We actually have a Jackson Yorkie, although the Chazdog is much cuter IMO!)

I like the flyball-type names a lot on paper, but I feel weird actually using them. It just doesn't flow right for me. I had a HUGE list of names when I got Riff and basically none of them worked for him! He very nearly became Hobbes, which I still really like, but I had already started calling him Riff and it stuck. :)

Doggie daycare ruined SO MANY names for me. I will never not think of particular dogs when I think of certain common names. And there isn't anything WRONG with that, it's just, I can NOT have a previous association with a name if I'm going to name one of my animals that. Like, from a book is fine, but an actual IRL association, I can't do it.

(I've only met ONE other Ozzy in daycare! And he was an awesome one eyed pug, lol, but my Oz was here first, so I still win.)

Indy is probably more common that I'd think, but there's never been one at the daycares I worked at. Enzo, I've never met another, Jones I've never even heard used for a dog before (though the likelyhood of that is zero) and Knox I've never heard used either.

I've run into one Indy online, heard of a few Enzos, which doesn't bother me, because Enzo is an AWESOME name, and I wish it wouldn't weird me out so bad or I would re-use it later on, but never ran into another Knox or Jones.

Magpie is the only one I didn't name. Came with that name and I hated it at first but after her failed adoption and we adopted her I never opted to change it. Now I love it and haven't met another dog named Magpie yet. Raegan sent me a video with a dog named Shambles and I was outraged.
