At this point I've decided to just wait until I meet the dog lol
I had a list a mile long when I was waiting for Merlin for girl/boy names.
Merlin was not on that list. But I knew I wanted either a magical, literary or an astrological themed name.

I am glad I decided on Merlin because he is SUCH a Merlin! :rofl1:

This forum actually was a huge part of why I decided on Merlin. I suggested it and it just..felt right lol my future puppy thread felt like such a group effort that when everyone else loved it too I was sold!

But a few that were on the list..

- Pyxis (it's a small pretty constellation)
- Hubble
- Apollo
- Fitzgerald
- Elara (which is one of Jupiter's moons)
- Pan
- Nix ( one of pluto's moons)
- Potter
- Nova
- Aurora (Rory)
- Borealis (Bo)
I like Pyxis! And Elara was on my list to, another friend just used it for a new puppy.

I'm sooo bad about just nicknaming animals, more so with my cats. Django I called "kitten" and then it morphed into "kittan" (ki-TAHN) and I pretty much call him that ALL the time. I've jokingly said I'm going to start spelling it Catan and officially change his name, since the poor boy is never called Django. Catan is an ok name though!

Wasabi is Sabi or Serbi or Serbalerb. Yeah his are worse.

My dogs at least I generally call by their names, Jasper is sometimes Jazz or Jazzy or Mister. Yarrow is Puppy Boy or just Boy.

I don't have plans for future pets so I don't have any names! I've never been good at it anyway :p

I love the name Django.

Well, Apollo is "Rastist, the Polartic Panther", so...:rofl1: I think I'm the only one in my family that actually calls him Apollo. And "Za Baby!" said in a high pitched, squeeky voice. Whenever I would come home, I'd greet him with, "Hi, Za Baby!" in a chirping kind of noise. When I visit my parents and I see him, I'll say that and he'll immediately meow or chirp and come twine around my legs. Then I pick him up and cuddle with him and he growls at me. :D

My mom has also dubbed Chloe "Stinky Butt Baboon Reject Dog" and my brother dubbed her "The Stupid Fuzzy". My mother's name for Wayne (my sister's pup) is Pee Tail Poop Butt.

Mike wants another small black mutt dog (or he said brown would work, too, I think) so he can name it Ember. So then he can have a Cynder and an Ember. Although then I suppose we'd have to spell it Eymber. LOL
Or Embyr ;)

I don't usually pick names out before I meet the dog. But with god as my witness, someday I will have a dog named Fig! and a dog named Toast.

ETA: And also possibly a Dibs.
I love the name Fig so much! I wanted to use it for Savvy but it didn't fit. I named a puppy Fig (Cherry's brother lol) but his people changed it to Boomer :/

Some day we will have a 3 legged dog and his name will be Hubble. We had a 3 legged foster that we loved name Legolas. We like star names for our pups so Hubble will fit in.

Ben really wanted to go with nut names -

Almond (Ollie) was his first choice, but ultimately vetoed.

I think I want to stick with geography names (Peco, Hudson) for future dogs.

I hate naming!

I totally stole Traveler's name from Baxter's Traveler on this forum, had it picked out years before I had a dog breed even set.

Didgeridoo I think is rather unique, I just like saying it honestly.

And Kaylee? Well, I don't care how common it is. It's perfect.

But yeah, for the next name I don't know what I'll do. Kinda like Wombat and always liked Tuesday for a name. I've always LOVED the name Scout but I know everyone and their brother has a dog named it.

We usually stick with story type names for the Chows.

My first Chow was Legend.
I think our next Chow will be Remus, but not sure.

Elegy and Saga were some we'd contemplated in the past when naming things.

Also, not a dog, but someday I really want a hairless guinea pig named Plum, lol

Really, the only name I am dying to use would be Sonya (as in, Sonya Blade). But seeing as I'm only planning Finkies for the near future and I'm big on the Finnish names/words for these guys, I'm not sure it will ever pan out. And I don't want to change the spelling of it, otherwise I could potentially do Sonja. Maybe if I switch to a different breed for a dog one day and the personality fits...

I want to have a black Pug, and name it Raisin. And another name I've always wanted to use is Wesley, as in the Princess Bride. It's an obedience name. ("my Wesley will come for me; this, I know.")

My next Stafford bitch, if she's black brindle like my others, will be "Flyin Magic 8 Ball", call name "Maybe".

I also like the name "Lincoln" for a dog. (registered name "Hot Rod Lincoln")

I have a lot harder time coming up with bitch names than dog names. Sadly. I had to keep Pirate because I couldn't think of a name if I kept the bitch. (okay, that's not really why, but it did cross my mind. A lot.)

I have a list of over 100 possible names for nextdog alone. And I know what breed and gender I will be getting. The list for distant future dogs is longer. I used to be really into writing stories, so I kept a list for characters that has morphed into a list for pet names. What can I say, I like options.

I don't plan names ahead... they just sort of happen.

I end up with fairly unique names. Never met another dog called Dekka. Kat and Quest are pretty unique.

I had planned on naming my next dog Rageous (Rage for short) because it's an AWESOME name!!

Then...Siri. :p

That's how it always seems to happen, I have a name picked out, then I actually get the animal, and it ends up with a completely different name!

Frodo was originally going to be George :rofl1: He is so NOT a George.
