My best friend has been diagnosed with melanoma :( She is having surgery the end of the month to remove the infected area and lymph nodes to see how far it has spread. It's a pretty invasive surgery, so she is going to be out of work for a significant period of time (months).

I want to arrange a list of people to bring her meals--much like you do when someone has a baby, or someone suffers a loss in the family. Has anyone done this before?

    Questions
    • How many times per week should someone be bringing a dish? 2 or 3?
    • How long should this last? As long as we have people willing to bring food?
    • Any suggestions? I am making a google doc so people can pick their own day and list what they are going to bring, so she doesn't end up with 7 macaroni and cheeses.

Between her sisters, agility friends, and coworkers, I think I have at least a dozen people who would be willing to cook something up for her (many of us multiple times), so we can probably stretch this out for a while. Those of you who had people bringing you stuff (after babies or whatever), did you ever get sick of it and want to be self sufficient again? Or was it forever welcome?

I think there are actually several free sites to help you coordinate food deliveries for folks like what you're thinking - unfortunately I can't for the life of me remember their names! Might be worth a google though.
