SORRY guys, I was dragged out of the house and away from the dogs all day, so I didn't get pics today. Here are some from yesterday, on our walk. Patches and Elway actually hauled their lazy butts out of dad's shop and came with us!

Alpha meets Alpha.. I don't have pics of the snarly-faces that Patches gave him, but they were enough to make him back down.

Zap: Let me violate your shoulder!
Elway: NO!

He's getting better at running!! He's nowhere near as quick as the BCs, but he can outrun a pair of older, rather overweight dogs.

Zaphod and my dad had 2 positive interactions today, both involving dad offering food to the pooch. I thought this morning was going to be disastrous when dad walked outside and zaphod went nuts, but dad had had enough and walked right up to the crate. Zaphod shut up, dad handed him a biscuit through the bars and Zap didn't bark again. I think dad actually WAS a little intimidated by him but I am sooo glad he chose not to show it and just squashed Z's attitude a little bit by walking straight towards him.

On our way back home, dad walked into the garage first and Zaphod didn't bark. Perhaps it's because I closely followed, but it's still a good thing. :) I'm having dad offer him food every time he goes through the garage.

We're not home and dry by any means, but it's progress. Dad declined to let me bring Z in the house today, but with a little more time I think he'll cave.

Oh, and in 2 days, Zaphod has gone from 54lbs to 56lbs. Ribs and hip bones are less prominent and I'm feeling a little bit of meat on him now. :) He's also learning, slowly, how to play with toys.

He is not a thing of beauty when running, LOL. The one time he actually ran and looked good doing it was the first day I brought him home, and he got a chance to really stretch his legs. But since then he's turned into a dork and runs like a drunken deer.

He's looking so good and so happy, Grace. Great pictures. I'm glad he and your Dad are making some progress too - hopefully that continues to improve. :)

Do I get "my" Eve pics soon? please?

Well, "drunken" is an ideal adjective. He found an old case of nasty beer in the garage when I left him alone for 10 minutes. I came back to him holding a punctured beer can and licking at it like the dog in "Turner and Hooch". He didn't get more than a couple licks, I thought it was so funny. He liked it. And no, before anyone wants to bash me, I don't make a habit of feeding alcoholic beverages to my dogs. :)

I have to shoo the dogs away from my wine glass constantly. And Virgo seems to have developed my affinity for Dr. Pepper...

He is learning though and that's good and YAY for your dad!

He's looking really good! It may just be the pictures, but he really doesn't look like he needs all that much more weight? What do you think?

Showpug, I think he needs another few pounds of fat, and another 10lbs of muscle. He's built to be a muscular dog but because he didn't get much good exercise at the shelter, he's under-developed. Heavy bones but nothing on them. I'd say he's put on 10lbs since coming home from the shelter, I wish I'd have weighed him on day one. He was probably like 45lbs.

He's doing really well on the kirkland food, I'm going to start incorporating some raw meals into his diet too.

Heheheh.....still chuckling over the "drunken deer" comment! THAT was the exact term my BIL used to describe Orson when he was a teen! ROFL!

Good to hear of the dad progress. You know, I think your dad might like him and appreciate him better that he has to 'work' for his affections...........you know what I mean??

I hope things continue to improve :)

RD, he looks great. Just don't let him drink and drive.

I'm so glad the Kirkland is working for you. It sounds like your dad is trying- so I bet he comes around.

Puppydog, it's possible, or it's possible that he never had many interactions with men during his crucial periods of social development. He was in a cage from ~3-4 months of age until a week ago, so I know just about everything that happened to him at the shelter, but very little about his life with his previous owners. I was out of state when Zaphod was brought in.

He doesn't seem like he's been hit. I swat at him in play and he isn't the least bit bothered by it. But I guess to a dog that dislikes the unfamiliar, lack of exposure is almost as bad as mistreatment.
