Dimwit scared the crap out of dad tonight. I was in my room and I heard a lot of LOUD angry bark/roaring. Dad had walked into "Zaphod's" garage when Z was crated and I wasn't present. I came out and Z quieted down, he rumbled at dad for a moment or two but was ok when I shushed him and led him over to dad. He let dad pet him and all was well, but he's very, very watchful around him. We haven't had a strange man come around yet, I'm not sure how he'll do with that. He's great with everyone when I'm around, but apparently significantly less friendly when he's alone.

Surprisingly dad wasn't disturbed by it, just admitted that Z was wary of him and was being a good dog for protecting his space. :)

In the future, I think I'm going to have dad throw food at him every time he goes into the garage and doesn't get barked at.

Wow, sounds like your dad was justifying Zaphod's behaviour... sounds like a good sign to me. His ears absolutely slay me. (Zaphod's, not your dad's.)

Smartypants has a decent enough sit-stay so that I can take pretty pictures like this:

"Hi, food lady. Gimme treat?"

"Fine, don't."

More smiles. He's been smiling all day and it makes me sooo happy.

He's put on a bit of weight, maybe a pound.

...Which doesn't make much difference considering he's got about 20 or 25 to go.

'tis all for now.

Oh, and his ears... The hair came off when I was washing his ears yesterday. It wasn't even rooted to his live skin anymore, there were so many dead skin cells and dirt caked around the hair on the edges of his ears that I think the hair just.. stuck there. I rubbed his ears and all that extra crap fell off, so now hopefully with the live skin cleaned and exposed to the air, new healthy hair will grow in.

I actually freaked at first because I suspected sarcoptic mange, but he's not itchy. At all. In any case I'm going to put him on revolution for a few months.

Aw poor baby. I'm would have freaked just like you did if not more. I'm half Malay and I've seen wayyy to many dogs with mange in that country. It was the stuff of nightmares when I was little. I'm sure healthy stuff will grow back and he'll be even more handsome than before.
