Bronze, because we are cheap! But I'll make sure to post some videos of our progress on here. What level are you guys in? :)
We are doing gold. I figured go big or go home! Haha. My husband agreed that it was my birthday present.

There are some others I'd rather do silver or bronze because taking videos would be hard (like the focus class - do I take a camera to the pet store, agility class, on walks?). The heeling class is easy since I can set the camera up in my bedroom easily enough and they're all small spaces exercises.

How similar/different are AKC rally and UKC rally? My trainer only competes and trains in AKC and wasn't sure this answer. How difficult is it to train yourself? Any resources online?...
I found them to be very similar. Besides the look and wording of the signs, the biggest difference I've found was some excercises are in different levels. For example, in URO1 (AKC Novice equivilant), there is the HALT, 90 degree Pivot Right HALT, which is in AKC Advanced. There is also the HALT, 90 degree Turn Right, Forward, which is in AKC Novice, but the HALT 90 Degree Turn Left, Forward is in URO2 (as is the pivot Left). Also,in Level 1, a 5 cone weave as well as the 4 cone. There are a couple signs in Level 2 that AKC doesn't have. Two big differences as far as excercises go- the jump is optional, and can only be used in Level 3, and Level 3 has the Honor that AKC replaced in 2012 with the Sit Stay.

A really big difference is there are no IPs. If you don't do a station right, it's an NQ (for example, sign says Finish Right, and you do a left finish). BUT, some judges will let you know you did the sign wrong by calling out, "Fault" and let you re-do the sign. Also, if you aren't sure if you did the sign right, you can ask the judge.

I pretty much taught myself UKC. It isn't that hard if you have a good understanding of AKC Rally. I bought the UKC Obedience and Rally Rule books as well as a set of UKC signs. And then I just set up courses I already had drawn up, using UKC signs instead of AKC

You're doing better than I am! I haven't even started :-( Hoping to get something on video tonight. Watson is very good about putting his feet on things, and I can lure him into a pivot, but we never got to the point of automatically pivoting together. I'm hoping that's a relatively quick jump for him to make.

Siri really seems to be the kind of dog who needs time to let things sink in (at least when I work with her). I never make progress with her if I try to teach something new and then practice it. However, if I teach something new and leave it alone for a few days/weeks/months (haha), I can come back to it without a problem.

I did a lot of work with her as a baby on heeling and heeling games and all things competition obedience. It all kind of fell apart for a while.

I took her out last night and she was actually putting the pieces of heeling together. ALL of them! It was really neat! Maybe some day I'll work on the pieces of front position again! :)

I'm taking precision heeling, bronze only though. Excited. :)

Yay, another precision heeler! We are in bronze too, I just make videos for my own reference. :)

And here's video from our last 2 sessions. We won't be this productive for a while after this. ;)

For any of the Fenzi Academy peeps, I'm in the process of posting our first video. It's horrifying. :rofl1: Watson knows some "feet on disc" stuff, but I didn't think he'd be so frustrated and plain crazy about it. I recorded it and it's too late to do another session today, so I just posted it. The best part is the hulk smash of the camera around 35 seconds.

I love how most of the other gold level people posted very nice videos of obedient dogs, and mine is of Watson shrieking at me. At least now you understand my pain. He has a "big dog bark", but he saves it for special occasions.

I'm going to have to get our butts in gear so we can not look so silly in this class.

PS How do I embed videos here? I tried my usual tricks, but I'm not getting it for some reason. I assume it's something simple that I'm missing.

Aww, Watson reminds me so much of Wesley in training! Easily frustrated and easily distracted. I know from experience that can be super tough. On the bright side, you'll get more out of being in a gold spot than people who have dogs that are 'easy'. :)

He's weird because he's not always this easily frustrated or distracted. He was already kind of nutty tonight when we started, so that didn't help. I think I also have issues training as usual in front of the camera. Reality tv star I am not!

But yeah, he can get super frustrated. Off camera I tried helping him out with cues he knew, like "wait" or "stand" and he rocked them, but I want him to calm the heck down and figure it out. He's one of those dogs who does "is this right? this? no, how about this? this. I know it's this. where is my cookie, woman?!"

He's also sacked out right now. Usually training doesn't tire him out, but I think his earlier walk plus that frustration was too much for his tiny puppy brain. :lol-sign:

My ob drop-in class is likely moving the class time up to 6:30. I can change my work schedule for a short time but not indefinitely. They were going to do it immediately but she decided to hold a 5 week CGC class, which will keep it at 7:30, but only for 5 weeks. Argh.

I got some good thoughts from Denise on our awful first video. I really did hesitate to post it, because a frustrated dog and trainer aren't really what I wanted to put out there, but I think it's good to have different levels of success in the videos for everyone to see. She says in the intro that the class is meant for pure beginners, but so many of the other gold students have a pretty firm grasp on things already. Maybe my fumbles will help someone else who is also just starting out.

Anyway, I decided to chuck the frisbee and work with a different disc. I had such a low rate of reinforcement because he wasn't getting both feet fully on the disc. After going to something taller, where it's easy for him to know if his feet are on or off, we had a much better session today. I'll take video tonight or tomorrow morning.

At least Watson puts his feet calmly on the disc. When I started with Kris, she thought the object was to pounce on it with her two front feet and make sure it did not get away. If that did not work, grab it up and run off with it.

Now that I am trying to do a 2o2o for Agility I cannot stop her from slamming both feet down but will keep trying.
