I just noticed that Oakley's 'thumb' was red & it looks like the nail is completely missing. The injury does look a few days old though. Im assuming he got it while trying to escape from his cage

I just want to make sure that there isn't anything I need to do. It doesn't look infected, but he doesn't really let me get near it...he walks/runs fine, but he does lick at it a bit.

I managed to get some hydrogen peroxide on it, but other than that, should I just let it heal on its own? How can I tell if its infected?

If it's red and warm, then,it's probably infected!.I would also stop him from licking it cos he could make it,worse and put a shoe on or wrap it,when he goes for a walk and then clean it,thoroughly, everytime,he comes in!.

Beau rips his off occasionally and I usually don't notice until it's a few days old. Only once have we had to take him in to get it wrapped and such. I'd let the vet look at it since you're already going in though.

Thanks...yeah, the vet said it looked fine. He didn't really say much else. Its red, but the good, healing red. Not the infected red. I think i'll just let it heal naturally cause it seems like everything is going good so far.
