Yeah that's pretty dumb... I mean everything can be a choking danger at this point, are they going to label everything?

I know warnings are on toys too, but at least in most cases it's a good indicator that your kid might be too young for it (except the toys where they put those warnings just because there are screws and it needs to be assembled first - those are dumb).

I shouldn't have read the comments though, now I want to tell those people that say it's just dumb not to teach your kids to chew that I'd love to hear about how to teach a 1 yo to chew (or a 2 yo for that matter, as Chris doesn't chew his food well).

We don't ever keep hot dogs in this house anyway. Mason will probably never see one unless at school or a friend's house.

What are they going to do? Make them into a patty?

We give hot dogs maybe twice a month... it's one of the only 'meat' they'll eat. I buy the preservative-free stuff though, and cut it in 4 sideways before cutting it in smaller pieces.

This is a ridiculous idea, period. We can't save everyone from everything and the sooner people and the government realize this, the better off they will be. As someone on the comments pointed out, we already HAVE 'redesigned' hot dogs..........it's called BOLOGNA.

That said, almost 5 years ago when I worked at our school a little boy (in 3rd grade, so 9-10) DID die from choking on a hot dog during lunch. It was served in 'corn dog' form. Paramedics were called and several people worked on him in the meantime to no avail. It was wedged in too tightly. When the paramedics arrived, they also tried and ultimately used some type of 'tongs' (I'm sure they aren't called that for medical use) to reach down inside his throat and remove it. It was too late......he was gone.

Our school system no longer serves hot dogs in any form, which I think should be the case in EVERY school system. (at least for lower grades) Hot dogs are a MAJOR choking hazard, especially for children. You have a cafeteria full of kids, many goofing around while eating and only 2-3 adult supervisors, really not a safe scenario.

And what KILLS me with our school system is that they cut out hot dogs, but STILL serve little cups of grapes  Grapes are right up there with hot dogs for children choking. *sigh*

Anyway, here is a list of the most choking hazardous foods:
    Nuts
    Hot dogs
    Grapes
    Hard candy
    Popcorn
    Raisins
    Raw carrots
    Spoonfuls of peanut butter
    Chunks of meat

If this hot dog 'campaign' goes through, think they are going to 'redesign' nuts? grapes? popcorn? ANY of those foods on the list? LOL CRAZY

Are people really this stupid? Hot dogs are great for a finger food. Just you have to be smarter than the hotdog and cut the thing up so it's small enough they don't choke on it. I slice it, and then cut the piece in quarters like I would for a dog treat.

    DUH DUH DUH DUH DUH!

You cut up a steak before you try to eat it don't you? Why not cut up a hot dog for a baby?

This is the point where the shallow end of the gene pool has been allowed to multiply. If you're not smart enough to cut something up into small enough pieces that the choking hazard is greatly reduced, then you don't need to be breeding.

Now small children at school, that is a different story. Kids are horsing around and goofing off, pushing and playing while eating - that leaves a lot of room for choking on anything. I think parents should teach their kids to take smaller bites or cut food up. Again, have to be smarter than the food.

Warning labels are the devil. They completely interfere with Darwinism. :rofl1:

:rofl1::rofl1: And I've been saying the EXACT thing to Kevin for years and years.

I mean COME ON.........all the "for external use only" warnings? Maybe I WANT to swallow vicks vaporub.......if it works good on the OUTSIDE, hey, it should work TWICE as well on the inside right?

I always chuckle when I use the blow dryer which has that big 'shocking hazard' label on it! I keep telling him, let people blow dry their hair while taking a bath if that is what they want to do, it'll save them time getting ready won't it?.........but hopefully they'll do it BEFORE they reproduce! :rofl1:

How about the skillsaw warning "Do not stop blade with limbs or genitals"

AWWW come on, why not?! It will certainly stop anyone stupid enough to do this from ever reproducing.

    HERE"S YOUR SIGN!!!!

Hannah likes hot dogs and grapes but you always cut them up and no jumping around while eating.

I personally like the warning on the curling iron. "do not insert into any orifice" and the one for the hairdryer "do not use while sleeping" OH YES that's really one of the warnings on the manual lol

I'm no doctor but I imagine if they tried to stop a saw with their genitals, they probably can't reproduce any more, unless it just cut it in half and now he hangs more freely than ever before (wonder if he could use them like a Newton's Cradle?)

Just what on earth are they going to do to choke-proof a hot dog? Make it dissolve into a liquid in your mouth (*shudder*)? Have it come in a tube of paste instead of a solid?

Warning labels have a place when something might not self -evidently be dangerous . . . but I actually think the warnings themselves are dangerous when overused. One, people assume anything without a warning is safe. Two, it is now impossible to tell if something is just "not 100% safe" vs. "deadly dangerous." I pretty much can't tell (except sometimes by looking at the ingredients) if a household product is "not edible" vs. "will make you sick" vs. "instant death." Three, its making people nutty afraid of things that are mostly safe, resulting in stupid precautions that prevent children (and even adults) from learning anything about life. Like that one should properly chew ones food, or you choke . . .

So if I go choke on a hot dog, I can sue because I was a glutton and didn't chew my food or took too big of a bite? **giggles** Yay, money for eating like a piggy!

I think its more that you can sue because your KID choked because you were not thinking about the fact that he or she doesn't chew well yet and gave them a hot dog . . .

It's still silly. That's like blaming the cow because you didn't cut the steak up and it was too tough to swallow whole.
