I had it done two days ago. My septum was all crooked and I was pretty much congested all Winter, so I went ahead and had it done... they had to remove a pocket of stuff on my left side too.

Let's just say the recovery isn't fun at all. First day my nose was packed and I couldn't really feel a thing (I guess still out of it from the anesthesia). Yesterday morning they removed the packing then put some lidocaine in there to numb it all so it wasn't that bad... Today holy crap.

I have painkillers for the pain and they're making me extremely dizzy. So I'm either in pain, or totally out of it. It's a blast. Plus my nose is congested (I have to rinse it twice a day, but can't blow my nose, so it's a mess in there, I've blown very gently to get some water out and omg it hurts even if I took painkillers). I can breathe through my right nostril at least, the left one not so much. And I keep getting junk in my throat from nasal drip.

Has anyone got it done before and how long did it take to recover? I'm having major remorse right now, lol.

I had it done when I was in college. The worst part of it, for me, was having the packing removed. I almost threw up and passed out... it was terrible.

I think I took painkillers for the first couple of days, and then after that it was fine. It creeped me out when I'd hit my septum the wrong way (as it would move!).

I hope you feel better soon!

Yuck, I hope you feel better soon! I had some side surgery done on my sinuses, but it was when I was in for jaw surgery, so they just went in that way after removing most of my upper jaw. I get all grumpy when I even have a raw spot in or on my nose when I'm sick - I think I'd be having a meltdown if it was more painful than that.

Take the meds. Feeling out of it for a few days is a small price to pay, in my mind.

I had a 90% deviated septum...Doctors said it was about as bad as it could get. I had it done on a Thursday and was back at school on Monday (that SUCKED). I have a high tolerance to pain (only took 2 pain pills because the side affects were worse than the pain) and I'm a fast recover-er..but man it sucked. Not being able to breath through your nose for a few weeks sucks. I would wake up in the middle of the night with a dry mouth and not being able to breath. Make sure you do the saline wash every day (I did it twice a day). Warmer water helps (make sure it is distilled, you don't want any flesh eating diseases up your nose). I also had tubes up my nose (that blocked my breathing) for two weeks that had to be pulled out...HOLY CRAP! That sucked. I was in class and one of the tubes dropped...I thought I did something wrong and ran out of class calling my doctor..LOL.

When I went though the surgery.... all I remember was waking up and the lady ripping the tube out of my throat... I think my throat hurt more that day than my nose.

Hope you heal up soon!!! Good luck!

My left nostril is shut right now. I don't know how I'm supposed to be cleaning it when nothing goes through. And the right one is such a mess that it's easier to breathe through my mouth anyway (as I can't blow my nose). I can't sleep well and wake up with a super dry throat. It totally sucks.
