New member of the family (border collie)

My sister and he fiance just bought a border collie puppy. Both parents are AKC borders and they are from a reputable breeder but Maceo, Mace for short, was the cheapest of all the puppies by about $200....is this because he has blue eyes and is mostly white so doesn't quite have all the AKC traits?

Has he been checked for hearing and eyesight? I know with most breeds that come in merle colors (and the border collies do), if there is a merle/merle breeding, some offspring can be double-merle. They look like what you are describing - lots of white, especially on the head, and frequently have blue eyes. They can have physical problems including deafness and blindness.

Yeah, the show ring is quite superficial. Boston made a good point but if his hearing and eyesight is fine, I would guess that the breeder just didn't want to be seen with an unusual looking puppy.

I bet your pup is gorgeous! Do you have any photos of him?

Well, his hearing and eyesight seem fine...he already can sit on command and he has a great time herding their yorkie into walls! he is gorgeous....here are some pictures.

Yup, he's a merle. He does have a lot of white on him, but he doesn't have a lot of pink tone to his skin, so he should be ok. His ears and around the eyes are colored, which are good.

See if you can find what his parents looked like. Good luck with him! He's going to keep you on your toes!

My parents were breeders and raised collies for over 20 years. They were all AKC registered and mom even showed a couple of them. They are such beautiful and great dogs to have as pets.
