Hi, I'm checking out this forum to get some info on puppies.
I have never had puppies before, and now I have TWO.

We haven't picked out names yet. I'm very open to suggestions.
I have to have them picked out this weekend.

We have a boy and a girl, born in September of this year.; brother and sister.
The boy is twice as big as the girl. He kind of resembles a little boxer puppy.
The girl was the smallest of the litter; has more of a pug type of face. She has a permanent little pout on her face.

Right now we have them both in a kennel at night. During the day we are putting them in a small bathroom with papers and toys. They seems to be doing well on the housebreaking.

I need to ask a couple questions of more experienced puppy owners. These two puppies get along great; most of the time. When they fight, they bite hard, and get reall aggressive. I think it's just puppy play, but I worry they are really going to hurt each other - or just keep going at it when we aren't at home during the day.

Should we put them in a Kennel during the day when we are away also? Put them each in their own seperate kennel so that they can't play together or use the paper? They are using the paper very well and also going outside when we take them. We will eventually phase out the paper, but needed to see how they were doing first. With living in Minnesota in the winter, and the way our house is set up, taking them outside every time I think they should try to go isn't working out well.

Any advise and help would be great.

Also, help with names please!!!

Thanks!!

Hello and welcome

I think you are doing great. The bathroom is a good idea and if that's working for them I wouldn't change it.

As for the biting that's how pups learn. They learn bite inhibition from their siblings and mother. It sounds like they are already over 8 weeks old so they probably had some schooling from their mom. Just watch them. If they are getting hurt you will have to intervene but my guess is they will be fine.

Welcome. The only suggestion I would make is to crate them in separate crates at night. Other than that it sounds like you are doing well. It is hard to raise littermates because they develop a very serious bond that can cause issues later if they don't get used to being apart, that is why I recommended the separate crates at night. You can still put the crates in the same room or side by side, just have them sleep in their own.

By the way, your puppies are darling.

Welcome to Chazhoud!!

Kovu (koe-vou) and Kiara are cute names. I can't wait to see what you do decide to name them!

In addition to crating them seperately at night, make sure you work on their beginner obedience sperately as well, this way they learn the confidence to follow you without their sibling being right next to them.

Thanks for all the input. That list of names was great. I like Pebbles and Bam Bam. Peanut and Jelly was great too. I have been wracking by brain trying to think of something that fits their personality and also something funny/cute. She is such a sweet girl. And he is this big wrinkly teddy bear. When we were bringing them home I looked at her sleeping on my lap and I thought of the name Cassie. It's just such a sweet girl name and it fits her. The first name I came up for him was Dude. But my boyfriend and I have been thinking "Buddy" fits him better.

thanks.

... sorry the pictures came out so large, having a hard time figuring out how to minimize.

We have a cat as well as the other dog. He's as big as midget - both of them are probably around 15 pounds. I suppose that these dogs will get to be around 15 to 20. I think the boy will be a weee bit bigger, and the girl will be on the small side.

We've had the puppies less than a week and just now our other pets are coming into the same room with them. The cat was pissed off in a huge way. He's pretty mellow and I think he'll warm up soon. He tries to sneak up on them when they are sleeping to check them out.

My boyfriend and I haven't stopped laughing at these animals since we brought them home. It sure is a great pick me up for someone dreading this crappy weather that I'm in for the next 6 months.

Thanks everyone.
We've decided on the names Cassie and Buddy. Goldie and Bear was cute though!

Cassie was the first name we thought by looking at her little face and after not having a name for him, calling him Buddy really stuck.

I forgot how much fun puppies are!
