Hello my name is Kristi. My family and I just added a dog to our family. She's a Siberian Husky. We already have a 3 year old black lab and.... 4 cats. (blushing I love critters) we took her home from the city impound in a city 50 miles from here. I am so greatful to them because they are trying to shelter the dogs long enough to find them home although they are only impound. Shes a stunning blue eyed appears to be a full breed siberian husky. They estimated her age to be under a year. (only due to her small size) After getting to know her she appears to be older to me, but only the vet can determine that. Oddly she was there just short of a month. She so far has show to me that she is such a lover. Kisses, cuddles, watches and looks for me. I was told she went out with 7 or 8 other dogs and did great. Wasn't the story when we got her home. Our black lab mix is submissive loving and doesn't have a mean bone in her body. Well our newest addition just wanted to fight. (Luckly things are calming down) I've kept her leashed at all times due to the young children we have, our other dog, and the cats. Shes growled at me a couple of times but it seemed to be when I touched her from waist back. (looking forward to a vet checking her out ASAP.) She'd go from licking my face while i was petting her to a short and brief growl. And didn't show any sign of really wanting to hurt me. Just as if she had either a sore spot or a spot she didn't like touched. The only consistancy I've seen in the area of her being upset is from waist back. Not in the same exact spot. So....we'll know soon. I can tell she had a bad life before. She worries about being hurt by stepped on, loud voices, if you tell her no shes seems to think shes going to be hit, etc. She seems to be adjusting well I just really hope she gets along with everyone. When they picked her up a month ago they said it looked like she had been on her own for a long time. And still needs some major weight and muscle. She still super skinny and you can feel her back bone poking up at least a half inch (but I think an inch) Any pointers or ideas on her or good ideas for a good weight gain would be great. Will update after she sees the vet. which maybe the end of the week. My cat just went nose to nose with her and she showed her teeth. :( don't think she growled. She had a raw hide so hopefully thats part of the reason why. I'm really hoping after she learns she'll always have food, love, not be hurt, and nothing here is a theat to her things will be well.
Kristi

Hello and welcome to Chazhound! :) Kudos and thank you for rescuing! :) I'm sure if you move your questions to certain parts of the forum (like training if you have training problems, etc.) you will find answers to any questions you may have! Good luck with everything! :)

Welcome to Chaz! Since you rescued a dog, you can have this:

I can make you a siggy if you want too.

A siggy is the little "picture" in the bottom of the post. :) If you go to User CP and edit signature, you paste the signature made for you (or that you've made) and it will show up in all of your posts. I also make siggies if you're interested. Is that your baby as your avatar? If so, she's GORGEOUS! I used to have a husky, SO sweet. We too had the same problem with our newest addition, a Shih-Tzu. Both of our dogs (a Yorkie, and a Silky Terrier X) are very easy going, and are good with other dogs, and we were told that "Zoey" (the Shih-Tzu we got on Saturday) LOVED other dogs....well, not so. She's doing MUCH better now, but when she 1st met my girls she snapped at dixie, and snarled at lucy. :( They're thankfully getting along much better now, and were playing this morning, I hope the same works out for you, and your new addition! Labs, and Huskies are my two #1 favorite breeds, as they were my childhood dogs. :D Good luck with your pups, and WELCOME TO CHAZ!
