New cart pictures, with Penny hitched

Discussion in 'Dog Pictures and Pet Photos' started by RedyreRottweilers, Jan 18, 2009.

  1. The new cart is pretty much done. I will eventually remove and paint the shafts. I was too anxious to get back to it to wait.

So, without further ado, here is the newly redone sulky.

All ready to go. She is now willingly and happily trotting me all over town. We worked on turns some today. She has a ways to go, but made two 180 turns on the road surface without any help other than verbal encouragement, so that is a huge plus. The new shafts help a LOT. :D

You made it?.Congrats on a great job!.
It's cool to see her do what she was bred for!.
Will you be doing a video of her doing it?.

  8. I have a couple from behind them the first day they (Penny and Milton) were hitched. I thought I got a clip today from the seat, but alas the battery was dead. :D

I didn't make the cart, but we redid it. New shafts, new seat, new paint.

Grammy, my goodness, you can't go out without BELLS!! :D In fact I have some more that I want to add.

Thank you all for your nice comments, I am having so much fun doing this my other training is suffering!!

I think it serves a bit of the same purpose as reins on horses...a slight tug can let her know what direction to go in.

  12. It sort of looks like a muzzle, doesn't it Juicy? It is actually a halti, which I use to guide her while we are driving. :D

Ooooops, I was so busy answering juicy's question i forgot to add all my comments!

That's SO friggin cool. If Milo wasn't 17 pounds, we'd SO be doing that.

And another question....is the cart high enough to prevent your feet from dragging?

  14. exactly, Milo's Mommy. It lets me keep in contact with her from behind, just like you do with a horse. I steady her pace going down hill with it, gently stop her with it, and let her know which way to turn as well. Works like a charm. She is still learning, but she is coming along FAST.

  15. Yes, it is actually very comfortable. Feet don't drag, but are close enough to the ground that if I need to drag them or stand up for an emergency stop I can do it.

Thanks for the responses....how are people's reactions to the cart in your town?

  18. So far, lots of smiles, cars stopping to watch, thumbs up, smiles, waves, and all positive comments.

I can't imagine what will happen when I have a double hitch going!!

That's great!!! For the breed's rep too :D

  20. I know I keep saying it, but it has been so much fun. The other day a young couple came out onto their porch as we were trotting by, and I heard him say to her, "OMG that is the coolest thing I have ever seen!!!"

    :D
