The new baby bird arrived last night and I have to post photos because I am so excited! The DNA sample was sent in a few days ago so hopefully we will find out the sex by this weekend and can then finally decide on a name. Anyway, for the people that didn't see my earlier thread he/she is a 15 week old baby Crimson Bellied Conure:

After a bath:

These pictures aren't that good but I am posting them so that you guys can see his colours a little better.

This one shows the red under his wings:

In this one you can get a glimpse of the blue in his feathers.

One more cute one:

Pictures don't do him justice, he is absolutely beautiful. I can't wait until his adult plumage comes in and he gets the full red belly. He was cautious the first day and still doesn't fully trust me (I know it will take a while), but he is definitely already getting attached. He doesn't like it when he can't see me, and today when I left him with a friend as I went to the washroom I heard him making slightly distressed sounding contact calls. While I am glad he feels safe around me, I definitely want him to be happy independent of my presence so it will be something to work on. All in all so far so good, I am pretty well head over heels. Thanks for looking!

Awww... once baby birds get some feathers, they are beautiful, and s/he is just really cute. Its good to hear that she's starting to be comfortable around you.
Anyway, is the DNA test the only way to know the gender?

Thanks guys, I am over the moon with the little tyke. We had a vet visit today and the vet noticed he was a little skinny, likely from the stress of travelling. Anyway, she recommended I handfeed him over the next few days for comfort and to get some extra food in him. She showed me how at the clinic today, and this evening I gave it a try on my own. Holy cow, it was such a bonding experience and my heart just melted.

Yes, the females and males of this species look the same so if you want to know the sex for sure you have to send in a few feathers to the lab. I never did for my past parrots but I don't want to give him an androgynous name so I payed the extra $10 to get it done :)
